If you want to stay in San Francisco to see out the end of the Mayan Calendar, you can do it while dancing at the Elbo Room. Located at 647 Valencia St., there are special visual effects by 120 Minutes. Music performances include NGUZUNGUZU, S4NtA_MU3rTE, and Chauncey_CC. This party begins at 10 p.m. on December 21 and ends at 3 a.m.
3. 9Lives rocks out the Mayan Calendar
Metal is revving up at 9Lives in Gilroy on December 21. Starting at 8 p.m. until 12 a.m., MAXX12 will bring you to your knees with their musical performance. The location is at 7430 Monterey Street and is only 30 miles from San Francisco.
4. Anti-Socialites host End of the World Meetup
Listed on Meetup.com as a group that promotes “offbeat activities,” the Anti-Socialites are joining together on December 21, 2012. Although their plans have not been clearly outlined, they invite any unique person between 20 and 39 to join them 7 p.m. The Bay Area location will be disclosed at a later date.
5. Black tie and roller skating to celebrate Mayan calendar end
CellSpace will be hosting D. Miles, San Francisco’s “God Father of Skate,” for a party that requires you wear your best clothes. Unlike other celebrations for the End of the Mayan Calendar, this event will take place on December 20, 2012. From 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., the SF’s skate party crew will be entertaining you at 2050 Bryant St. in San Francisco. Skate rentals will be available for $5 and admission is $15.
6. Food bank building dance party
Do you want your admission money to see DJ Jerry Nice and Sweaterfunk to go to a good cause? Proceeds of the Slate Bar’s End of the World Party will go to the SF Food Bank. Located at 2925 16th St. at S. Van Ness, the pricing will be $15 after 11 p.m. and $10 before.
7. “End of the World as We Know It” dance party
Riddim Dance Hall at 581 5th St. in Oakland is hosting a Mayan Calendar based event. For anyone that wants to join in from around the Bay Area, the location is close to the 12th St. BART. The fun begins at 9 p.m. on December 21, 2012 and the details on the musicians performing is to be announced at a later date.
8. Moshing, BBQ, and the End of the World
Many people in the Bay Area get locked into their local communities and rarely travel for parties. However, this End of the World Party might be one exception to make if you love rock and roll. On top of that, this is a free 21 and over event. The advertisement also promises that there will be BBQ for attendants. The party gets started at 7 p.m. on December 21 at the Babylon Club at 1064 N. Fulton St.
9. Free four-day art display in the Mission
Starting at 6 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. from December 18 to 21, Galeria de La Raza will show “Mundo Maya 12:12:12: A Celebration of the Mayan Culture & Calendar.” The location is at 2857 24th Street in San Francisco and is free to everyone. The final day will have a special presentation.
10. End of the World After Party funds AIDS research
Sponsored by SFGayTimes.com and the Elton John Aids Foundation, there is a way to keep the Mayan Calendar End of the World Party going. Hosted at 10 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, The Powerhouse at 1347 Folsom Street will be a fundraiser. The $5 admission will go to Aids Research funding. Music will be hosted by DJ Guy Ruben.
Honorable Mention: Mojave Desert Indie Rock concert

n case you do not like dance music or heavy metal, there is still one way to celebrate the End of the World. Considered to be a “leading source for the best in San Francisco Bay Area independent rock,” TheBayBridged.com suggests for locals in the San Francisco Bay Area to celebrate the Mayan Calendar End in Pioneertown near Los Angeles.
While this is outside of the Bay Area, their review quotes Sacred Bones Records Label Manager, Taylor Brode, as saying; “We wanted to do something really special like a destination event for our bands, friends, and family,” For $30, you can see musical acts Lust for Youth, Psychic Ills, Zola Jesus, and others. The party begins at 8 p.m. at Pappy and Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace on December 21, 2012.
