Mayan Calendar 2012: Armageddon?

2012 Calendar, Mayan Calendar

There is an ongoing debate about December 21, 2012 – when the world will end, begin again, and all the people on Earth will die an agonizing death or live a wonderful, long life. It is also the time when we will be raised up, be handed the ultimate enlightenment, and walk in the light with the angels. In that time turbulence, tremors and earthquakes will also destroy great land masses, and we will be victims of extreme solar flares as the galactic alignment causes the poles to reverse. Good and evil will balance, unbalance as good triumphs and is defeated simultaneously.

Before 2012, we will need to stockpile food, water and guns against famine, and in 2012 we will also be delivered into paradise where food and water will be abundant and never-ending. Guns will also not exist anymore, and we will all finally just get along. It will be the period when the extra-terrestrials finally arrive, as a rogue, undetected asteroid hits the planet. Even now it hurtles towards us as it prepares to hit or pass us by leaving our world unscathed or completely decimated.

Time will end and begin again.

All these things will happen or not when the Mayan calendar runs out on December 21st or 23rd, 2012. Many people believe one or all of these predictions; many other folks feel it is just BS and hype. In either case, they made a blockbuster movie that was released in 2009 aptly named 2012, and the Mayan Long Count calender continues to count down to its inevitable conclusion. Maybe, the extraterrestrials will be from the lost tribe from the Battlestar Galactica or ETs from galactic center of our galaxy. They may arrive or not in 2012; they could be friendly or not.

It could be the best of times or the worst of times. Many people have opinions; other folks could care less. Most folks don’t really understand what the heck the Mayans were talking about, although they quote them just like you would other things in Pop culture – Mayans are the harbingers of doom, and they have a calendar that runs out to prove it. All other prophicies lend themselves to this framework, and if you say the sky is green long enough, folks will believe it.

Much of this disaster/bliss speculation revolves around the 2012 prophecies, the Mayan calender, quatrains of Nostradamus, the Webbot Project, various seers and psychics, the Bible – the list goes on and on. But what exactly is the Mayan calendar and how does it lead to Armageddon or heavenly bliss? Mayans were great astrologers, mathematicians and scholars whose record keeping is renowned. One of their calendars, the Long Count calendar makes reference to the year 2012. While it doesn’t actually point to a specific day, it does seem to represent that in 2012 there will be an end to time and that a new period will begin.

The second calendar – the Tzolkin points to a 260 day time period that utilizes 20 days that rotate in connection with 13 that create the basis of the calendar. Ahua also known as Ajaw is a special day because during this period the Baktun begins. Baktun periods run for 5,124 years, and are shown on the Long Count calendar. The Baktuns are called the 5th placemark on the LC calendar and in 2012 there is movement from 12 to 13.

2012 Calendar – Doomsday

2012 Apocalypse – it has been foretold in the Bible where there are turmoil and disasters in the Book of Revelations to Nostradamus and the Maya’s reference to the date 2012. A prophecy is a vision of a future event that will most likely happen.

It is also something that will probably be within the scope of humanity’s ability to change the outcome. With the Maya, while the calendar comes to an end in 2012, it does not make any claims of the world’s end. It simply tells the end of one period and the beginning of another. The rest is open to interpretation.

Now that you know more about the Mayan calendar, 2012 and what the prophecy states and doesn’t, what do you think will happen in 2012? Is the end of the world near or are we headed into a new world of enlightenment and love?
