Top 10 Items for Your Beach Cooler

Beach Picnic

Going to the beach can be a relaxing, entertaining, and an all around great vacation experience…as long as you bring the cooler. When hunger hits at the beach, it hits hard and you had better be prepared. Don’t be left empty-handed when it comes to food and drinks when you’re seaside. Here are ten food and drink items to fill your beach cooler and your belly.

Ice – Don’t laugh, you might be surprised at how many people leave this item until the last minute and then forget or don’t get enough. And while it seems obvious, your cooler isn’t going to be much good to you without it.

WaterBottled water can do the trick, but if you want to save a few bucks, you can fill up containers of tap water, store them in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to leave for your trip and then throw them in the cooler. If they are already frozen, they will act as cool packs until they thaw into cool, refreshing water.

Soda – While it isn’t as healthy as water, it sure is delicious. Pick a couple of your favorite, or those of the people you’re traveling with, and make sure they stay cold. Not only are they refreshing but they can provide a quick burst of caffeine fueled energy as well.

Beer – It’s hard to beat a cool beer at the beach. Just be careful and don’t have too many if you plan on driving. And remember not to take those glass bottles on the beach!

Mixed drinks – This one might be a little more difficult to bring along than the other drinks, but they are still doable. Premixing some tasty cocktails can make for a delicious afternoon concoction to beat the heat. Just make sure you don’t dehydrate yourself with too much alcohol.

Wine – A bottle or two of good wine can be a good item for a beach picnic, but remember not to bring your glassware on the beach as if it breaks it can cut feet and other extremities. If there is a designated picnic area around the beach it might make the perfect spot for you to leisurely enjoy your wine.

Sandwiches – You can really work up an appetite at the beach and a sandwich or two in the cooler can do to the trick when your stomach is rumbling. Whether it’s ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly, a sandwich, protected in a sealable water proof bag or container to keep moisture out, can be a perfect food item to keep in your beach cooler.

Fruit – Whether it’s canned, whole, precut or diced, fruit is a healthy snack that can be super refreshing on a hot day at the beach.

Cheese – This is another great item for your beach cooler, especially if you bring wine. Just make sure it stays cool, otherwise you might end up with a mushy mess that might be neither sliceable nor edible.

Candy bars – Candy bars are great snacks for kids or adults. To keep them super cold, consider freezing them before you leave for your trip and then letting them slowly thaw in your beach cooler until you’re ready for a quick and tasty sugar boost.
