Top 10 Fourth of July Songs About Fireworks

Best Songs for Summer

The Fourth of July is supposed to be about celebrating our country’s independence, but it’s hard not to look forward to the holiday for one reason alone: the fireworks. This is a list of great songs about fireworks (or that could at least be interpreted to be about fireworks) that are perfect for setting them off to at your July 4th party:

‘T.N.T.’ by AC/DC – I love the upbeat, uplifting nature of AC/DC’s tongue-in-cheek songs, and this one is perfect for your Fourth of July fireworks display (especially if you can time your bottle rockets to go off with each “Oy!”).

‘Fire in the Sky’ by Ozzy Osbourne – What can I say? I’m a gal that loves my classic rock songs, and while the ‘Fire in the Sky’ Ozzy is singing about isn’t a fireworks display, this is one of those songs that just has a great sound for setting explosions in the sky to. Just make sure that everyone at your July 4th party is okay with “the Devil’s music.

‘4th of July’ by U2 – This haunting instrumental by U2 is one of the band’s most overlooked songs, and while it really doesn’t have anything about it that screams “Fourth of July”, I can see the music being perfect for a Fourth of July fireworks display (and a nice break from the heavier, louder songs on this list).

‘Light My Fire’ by The Doors – Obviously Jim Morrison was not singing about lighting up fireworks in this song. But it’s just one of those songs everybody knows, so it would bring smiles to the faces of your July 4th crowd if you set off fireworks to its once-controversial lyrics.

‘Fireworks’ by Siouxsie & the Banshees – With a band name like this, you know this song about fireworks is going to be loud. It’s one of the lesser-known songs on this list, but it would make an interesting addition to your Fourth of July playlist.

‘Smoke on the Water’ by Deep Purple – This is another of the many great classic rock songs on this list that’s not really about fireworks (it’s about a building burning down), but the lyrics, “smoke on the water, fire in the sky” make it a perfect song for a July 4th party by the lakeside.

‘Cherry Bomb’ by The Runaways – I know that cherry bombs aren’t really fireworks, but I’ve got to show the ladies some love on this list, too! Joan Jett and the Runaway’s upbeat tune is perfect for shooting off fireworks to (especially if they’re red), and this will be one of the more surprising songs on your Fourth of July playlist.

‘Fireworks’ by Blue Oyster Cult – I love Blue Oyster Cult songs; they all have this spooky, haunting feel to them that makes them perfect nighttime songs. So of course this one, which is really more about a guy and a girl “hanging out” by the river, is perfect for a July 4th fireworks display (even if the fireworks referenced are more of a euphemism for something else).

‘Shell Shock’ by Manowar – It already sounds like fireworks are going off at the beginning of this hard rockin’ tune, and I think the harder a rock song is, the better it works for a Fourth of July fireworks display.

‘Fireworks’ by Animal Collective – For something with a more modern sound, try this unusual tune. It’ll be one of the strangest songs on your list, but the music really would work well with your July 4th fireworks.

These songs would all be great for shooting off fireworks to at your Fourth of July party, but if you’re looking for some other great July 4th songs just for listening to, check out some of these rockin’ patriotic (and a few less patriotic) songs. Music is great for celebrating Independence Day, because it’s something most of us have used to celebrate our own independence for decades. So let freedom (and your ears!) ring with these great Fourth of July songs.
