One of the most popular destinations for the hot summer is Barton Springs that is located in Zilker’s Park. This natural pool is fed from an underground spring and stays close to seventy degrees all year round. This is the fourth largest natural spring that can be found in Texas and has been popular for generations. Many famous people have frequented the spring and the kids are just going to love splashing and playing in the warm waters. It is also closer than Lake Travis for a fun few hour getaway. There is also a train called the Zilker Zephyr that offers rides for those who want to get a scenic and comfortable look at the park.

From March to October, basically during the warm season, all the bats come to Austin to dine of the plethora of bugs that fill the night sky. The best time to see them however is in August when they are the most active. Their favorite place to congregate is Ann Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. When they make a move to feed in the evening, the entire sky appears to be filled with them. It is an awe inspiring site that the children are never going to forget.

Just because school is out does not mean that the kids have to quit learning. There is the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum to explore which offers the history of Texas in a fun filled way. There is a life sized mock up of the Alamo that they can have fun exploring as well as the Star of Destiny which is a 4D production that not only offers 3D graphics but the seats move and the rain actually falls on the viewers. The lessons learned range from the Native Americans and up to modern day history. The kids are not going to mind learning when it is made as fun as this makes it.

Just because summer is here and the children are out of school does not mean that they have to spend all of their free time playing video games and chatting on social networking sites. Get them out of the house and explore everything that Austin has to offer.
