Top 10 Action Movies of 2009

10. Fighting

Anytime you steal millions of dollars from investors, and throw a fight I suggest you leave town and change everything about you. The fight scenes were nicely choreographed and none bloody which is great to watch with little ones. Terrance Howard plays Harvey Boarden a mentor who taught Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) how to get in the fight game and be successful. The movie was simple and to the point of a fight movie. The way to a fighters heart is threw a woman Zulay Velez (Zulay Henao), hello Mike Tyson. This followed in that story line, man meets woman falls in love, mentor is controlling woman. Fight for money and the girl.

9. Fast & Furious

When Vin Diesel steps on the screen there is always going to be action. This Fast and Furious was the reunion between Paul Walker and Vin Diesel , as we remember last time they were on the screen together Vinny got away, compliments of Walker. In this movie they join up to solve a murder of a friend close to both of them, I wish it wasn’t so. It was very fast driving and intense fight scenes, especially the scene where Walker is chasing a suspect and he just so happens to fall off a building. This might be the last episode you see so grab your copy and try not to get a speeding ticket in the process.

8. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

The beginning of the end for this series of underworld vampires and werewolves fighting. You get to see the love story and action adventure of a vampire queen Sonja (Rhona Mitra) falling in love with a werewolf servant Lucian (Michael Sheen). The action was raw, dark, and easy to follow. If you ever wanted to know how the female character Selene in the first movie came about, this movie will tie it all together for you. The Lycans were mistreated servant slaves to the vampire masters, and were forced to rebel. This was the last installment in this series, and will be a great movie to watch around Halloween, if you haven’t already.

7. Star Trek

Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) was a menace to society, I would have never know this if not for this movie. The movie was action packed and had everyone wanting to go into outer space to fly on the enterprise. The characters were similar to the original T.V. version, although I have never seen Dr. Spot (Zachary Quinto) steal a woman away from Capt. Kirk. Yes she the woman was beautiful and the space scenes were magnificent. With the ships flying in space and seeing Dr. Bones (Karl Urban) get space sick, it reminded me of the toy I got for Christmas when I was a kid thanks mom. The Romulan enemy in this movie was harsh and was attempting to destroy the enterprise, but there is always someone from the past popping in to save the day. Have fun with this movie, it will keep all the Star Trek fans busy. Beam me up.

6. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Optimus Prime is the best robot car fighter I have seen on this planet. The movie takes a nice spin with Shia Labeouf going off to college and meeting a hot college student, which I thought was not hotter than Megan fox, maybe they should have changed her role for this installment. The fight scenes were like watching MMA, Kimbo Slice eat your heart out. The action continued until the final stage was set which I think slowed the movie down, I wanted a big battle with the Decepticons going over the top. Transformers 2 was still one of my top picks for just the thought of cars fighting and transforming had me at hello. Oh and yes I will have me a t-shirt with Optimus Prime on it before the year is out.

5. Terminator 4: Salvation

This was the clean up movie that had us all wondering what will happen in the future, while all the other titles dealt with Terminators coming back to stop the future from happening. Christian Bale (John Connor) played his role well, I was expecting nothing less especially after seeing him in the latest installment of the Batman series. The Action started off hot with all John Connor’s soldiers fighting in a dark hole in the ground, and continued to the end with Christian Bale fighting the Governor of California, although I really didn’t really have to see Arnold Schwarzenegger in order for the movie to be valid. I thought the movie carried itself well and the theme was right up there with the first Terminator. If the future is bleak like they say in this movie, let’s stop using computer now.

4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine is one of the best X-Men characters to hit the movie screens. This movie create a lot of stir before it came out, the producers said bootleggers were releasing a fake copy of the title, it made the producers come up with an alternate ending. The story line was well thought out, and it even had me second guessing myself. I thought Saber tooth was Wolverines Dad, but it wind up being his brother. The fight scenes were well planned and even had Van Wilder (Ryan Reynolds) as a super hero, his role was similar to the one he played in Blade 3. X-Men Origins was a great way to start off the Origin series, if you look close and listen well you will see many of the characters portrayed in the cartoon version. I look forward to the next X-Men Origin they show case on the big screen.

3. GI Joe: The rise of Cobra

A movie that cleared up the mystery of how Cobra got to the point of wearing that silver mask. The movie made you sit on the edge of your seat, thinking about being a kid sitting in front of the television before going off to school, asking for more. The women Sienna Miller, and Rachel Nichols were beautiful in the movie, and the men Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Channing Tatum, and Marlon Wayans were in tip top shape for their roles as super soldiers, something we all thought about being some day. From jumping over buses in super soldier space suits, to termite looking creatures tearing up buildings, the action was non-stop. GI Joe the rise of Cobra should be one of your must have DVD’s.

2. Blood and Bones

This was one of the best action movies of 2009 that didn’t get the publicity that it deserved. The stars of the movie are Michael Jai White, Bob Sapp, and Kevin ‘Kimbo Slice’ Ferguson. Sorry but Kimbo Slice was just in the first scene of the movie and that’s it. The movie starts with White in prison and the fighting begins from there. The fight scenes are great, not sense Bruce lee have I saw a good martial arts fight, mixed with street fighting. If you like fighting and other movies like it, then this will please you over and over again. The last scene is a show stopper, so enjoy and remember who told you about this one.

1. Taken

Daddy’s big payback should have been the name of this title. I didn’t know Liam Nelson was an action hero until this one movie. He told the man to let his daughter go and he would forget this ever happen, well we know the man didn’t comply, which got the movie rolling. This was by far the best action movie I have seen all year. It touched on an event that takes place all too often, when young women are snatched and sold into sex slavery. You won’t go wrong to sit with your kids and allow them to watch this movie, it’s a nice conversation piece on why kids should listen and not lie to their parents. This is a must have for your collection, you can even give out copies to friends you know with daughters that like to lie about their destination. I see a sequel to this movie, and can’t wait to go view it.
