The first thing you will notice about the Remington Titanium MS 5500 razor is its design. This razor has a sleek silver and black design that, in the hands of a creative teenager, could easily be multitasked to serve as a UFO in a student film. From above and turned facing away from the camera, the Remington Titanium MS 5500 razor could very easily be manipulated to look like an otherworldly spacecraft slowly floating through a backdrop of twinkling stars by someone with only the slightest knowledge of how to use a home video software program like Adobe Premiere.
None of which does you any good if you are buying the Remington Titanium as a shaver, of course. So how does this electric razor stack up against the competition? I’ve never found a razor that leaves me with a perfectly smooth shave-I guess my whiskers are just too manly or something-and, alas, even after using the Remington Titanium for almost a month now I still haven’t found that perfect razor. However, this Remington is the best I’ve used so far.
First things first. How does the Titanium MS 5500 feel? Well, it’s got a terrifically designed ergonomic curvature to it that feels wonderful in your hand. The curved designed also allows the razor to be held at certain angles that can be quite uncomfortable with a straight design. So, Remington’s got that going for it. The Titanium 5500 has got three foils; two large ones and then a small pop-up foil for use in tight, hard to reach spaces like right under your nose or along the Adam’s apple. In addition, there is also a pop-up trimmer for mustache and beard sculpting. I have to say the trimmer on the Remington Titanium 5500 is without question the best I’ve ever used. I can actually use it on those nasty little neck whiskers that won’t come out with the foils without cutting my skin. No blood so far.
The Remington Titanium 5500 is a rechargeable and one of the nifty little things about it is a reserve option. For instance, let’s say you forget to plug in for a recharge or the electricity went out or something. There you are shaving, you’ve got half your face done and-boom-out goes your razor. What do you? What DO you do? Well, guys, if you have the Remington Titanium 5500 you simply press the little button on the front that says Reserve and, what do you know, you are accessing the razor’s energy reserve, which should be enough to get through the current job, providing the job isn’t to remove Robin Williams’ back hair. Of course, you will probably never really need to use the Remington’s reserve because there is an LED meter on the front lets you know how much juice you’ve got left in the razor. The meter shows you in twenty degree increments the percentage of power the razor has left.
Is the Remington Titanium 5500 the best electric razor on the market? Probably not. But unless you’ve got enough money to shell out for those ultra-expensive Braun shavers, it’s probably the best one you can get for under a hundred dollars.
