The Pros and Cons of Lving in Idaho

Art in the Park, Sun Valley, Twin Falls

As a 23 year old, happily married stay at home mother of one, I have to say I do enjoy living in Idaho. However I used to live in Boise, Idaho, that is where I grew up, and now live in Shoshone, Idaho, which is about an hour and a half away. Moved from a city just over a quarter million to a small town of about 1500. Boise had it’s perks all right, lots of very friendly people, a lot of things open 24 hours, it can be quiet in your neighborhood, but if you want some noise just drive downtown and enjoy the large options in the night life. In Shoshone there is no nightlife, well unless you drive to the one bar open here, or drive twenty five minutes away to Twin Falls, about half the size of what Boise is. The job market in Idaho is not great, but not bad at the same time. It is very easy to land a great paying job, but you have to show up on time every day and work real hard to keep it, Idaho, the “right to work” state. I agree you should have to show up and work hard to keep your job but a lot of the job market here can and will fire you if you must take a leave of some sort, say if you have a baby, or get sick for too long. It really depends on the employer. The right to work means they do not have to have a reason to fire you, plus side is it is easy to get another job if you get canned.

The homes are affordable most places, along with rent. Boise is about in the middle; it is very affordable compared to other bigger cities, yet more expensive than places like “Shoshone” of course. Shoshone is the most affordable place I have ever lived, however there is not really any good paying jobs here. So to make our income my husband drives about an hour each way up towards the Sun Valley area, they pay much better. Sun Valley is very expensive to live however very nice to visit. Sun Valley is the home of the USA’s first ski resort, and also the home of celebrities like Tom Hanks, whom my husband is roofing his new home for, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, and more. A small rich community, just watch out for their drivers.

The seasons in Idaho are the best I have ever known. In the summer it gets very sunny most every day, and pretty hot at times too, perfect for going to one of the many lakes or rivers in Idaho. In the winter it gets a tad bit cold, but the snow s amazing, perfect for going to one of the many ski and snowboard resorts in Idaho. In the spring it is the perfect temperature with the occasional rain, but gorgeous flowers everywhere. The fall is a perfect temperature with the occasional chill at night, but the colors on all the trees throughout Idaho are amazing. Idaho is known for having more summer and winter sports and activities available than most. There’s museums, art in the park in most cities here, and the Boise Zoo is amazing. Taxes aren’t too bad here, the police are friendly, and the schools are great. So if you ever think of moving here or just visiting, you know you’ll love it.
