The Lost City of Atlantis in the Bahamas

Atlantis, Edgar Cayce

“In a single day and night your war like body sank into the sea, the City of Atlantis.”

This famous account from the famed philosopher Plato has been part of the only written account of the ancient city to have ever been discovered. According to Plato Atlantis was an amazing city that was advanced way beyond that of any other civilization of that era of history, but like the account says, the city was demolished in a single day and night, swallowed up by the sea.

Many researchers have tried to find the city, but not much evidence has ever surfaced, although some compelling finds have come to light. So if you’re an archeologist or researcher and wanted to find and prove the existence of this mythical culture where would you look? Where does the search for Atlantis really begin? Well you may have to traverse all of the Atlantic Ocean to find out.

The Bahamas are a place that many believe hold the key to the ancient city of Atlantis. Edgar Cayce was a man who claimed to have psychic abilities. Through these abilities he was said to be able to see the future, and one prediction he made involved the discovery of Atlantis. He predicted that this discovery would take place off the coast of the Bahamas, and in 1968 the Bimini Road was discovered.

The Bimini Road is a group of unusual stones that have been found off the coast of the island in the Bahamas. They are widely considered to be of natural formation, but many think that the stones are too precise and well placed to have been formed in nature. The rows of stones are set in straight lines and face very distinct directional patterns. Also the individual stones seem to have been “Cut” to fit one another perfectly. Also some divers have claimed to have found pottery and other minor artifacts along the road, but nothing definitive has come to light.

The location set in the Bahamas also would fit the description of what Plato wrote in his telling of Atlantis. An Island nation, that was a center for trade. The only discrepancy is the fact that there is no clear visible mountain range along the Bahamas that would account for the one Plato told of, although it is possible that the cataclysm that destroyed Atlantis also destroyed this rang because we do see mountains on the islands of the Caribbean.

The way Atlantis was destroyed was by being “Swallowed by the Sea” and this could mean a tsunami. Ever since the tsunami that devastated Thailand in 2005 scientist have developed methods for discerning the risks of certain areas for the threat of a tsunami, and the islands in and around the Bahamas are indeed a calculated risk. One Mountain slide off the coast of Africa could cause a mega Tsunami, one that would dwarf the 2005 Tsunami in size and power!.

Also Hurricanes could possibly be to blame for the destruction of Atlantis, if it were set in the Bahamas. Category four and five storms with wind speeds I excess of 150+ miles per hour could easily destroy buildings and other structures and the storm surge generated would have leveled the low lying city, so the possibility for natural disaster to strike an ancient city as magnificent and advanced as Atlantis is there, and we see these forces at work in our modern world.

So was Atlantis located in the Bahamas? And what exactly is the structure know as the Bimini Road? The evidence is there, and only science can tells us if the lost city of Atlantis was indeed located in this area, and if it was not, then the search will continue.
