The Local Folklore and Legends of 6 Towns Haunted in Maryland

Bad Smells

Do you believe in ghosts? Sightings of specters are reported all over the world everyday! Here are some of the reports made from the state of Maryland by tourists, as well as, natives!

Allegany County, Cumberland, Maryland

At a private residence on Washington Street, home owners have been terrorized by banging noises, items being moved, laughing children and disembodied crying. They have also witnessed the blinds going up and down on their own, bad smells, doors opening and closing and heavy phantom footsteps. The owners of this home have had the home blessed several times but to no avail.

Baltimore County, Baltimore, Maryland

At the Todd Farm in Baltimore, residents and neighbors have claimed to see the apparition of a young, eighteenth-century woman, standing at the attic window. This home was apparently built in the late seventeen-hundreds and has seen its share of deaths, slavery and war. Some other claims made at the Todd Farm include: lights going on and off when the house was vacant and without electricity, strange sounds and lights have been witnessed in the family graveyard behind the house, and some have even claimed to have seen the apparitions of deceased slaves hanging from a tree.

Baltimore County, Catonsville, Maryland

On Asylum Road in Catonsville, local residents have claimed to hear rapping noises and loud bangs coming from an old, abandoned mansion. Many have also said that they heard whispering voices and saw solid apparitions that they thought were living people until they disappeared into thin air right before their eyes!

Prince Georges County, Glenn Dale, Maryland

Many local residents of Glenn Dale have claimed that the old, abandoned hospital is haunted. Those who live nearby the hospital have reported seeing vaporous human forms roaming past windows on the second floor, as well as, seeing smoke coming from the crematorium. Others have heard noises such as: screams, cries, yelling and loud banging sounds.

Prince Georges County, Greenbelt, Maryland

In NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, many of the buildings have had claims of the paranormal. In building 1, many employees have heard footsteps behind them. In building 5, many have claimed to get the feeling of dread and have also heard strange and unidentifiable noises. In building 7, phantom footsteps, doors opening and moving shadows have been witnessed. In building 8, many have felt as if they were being watched. In building 11, witnesses have reported voices coming from empty elevators. In building 17, reports of moving cold spots and footsteps have been made. In building 26, employees have reported hearing the sounds of a drum being beaten and disembodied voices. In addition to these strange sounds, witnesses have also claimed that they saw the apparition of an Indian throughout the building.

Washington County, Hagerstown, Maryland

At the Hager House, many have claimed to see a black, human shaped shadow on the porch. The sounds of disembodied voices and footsteps have also been heard within the house. Rocking chairs are said to rock when empty and an old corn cob doll has turned up in odd places over and over.
