The IMAX Theater at Pittsburgh Mills

Cinemark, IMAX, Imax Theaters

You walk up to the ticket counter and purchase a ticket for the evening showing of “Salt,” starring Angelina Jolie. You walk through the doors into a wide open lobby and head straight to the concession counter for some popcorn and Coca-Cola. After doctoring your popcorn with butter and salt, you head back to the hall and hand the nice usher your ticket. He directs you to the correct theater and your journey begins.

You open the door to the theater, start down the darkened aisle, and there, looming in front of you, spanning wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, is a giant projection screen. You round the corner and look up to find stadium-style seating with seats that recline and have cup holders attached to the arms. You don’t realize that the seats have been positioned precisely to offer you the maximum field of view. You simply take a seat, the lights dim, and your IMAX experience begins.

IMAX theaters are “specifically designed to deliver the world’s most immersive movie experience” (IMAX.com). The screen, which is coated with a high-grain silver paint to “maximize light polarization and brightness” (IMAX.com), is also perforated with thousands of miniscule holes that allow sound to pass through. The digital sound is conveyed through loudspeaker technology, and the theater is acoustically treated to “present accurate and realistic sounds with the largest dynamic range” (IMAX.com). This “enables sound to be clear enough to hear a pin drop and accurate enough to know exactly where it dropped” (IMAX.com). That means when Angelina Jolie is fighting the bad guys and blowing stuff up, you see, hear, and feel everything. The floor rumbles beneath your feet, your senses go on overload as your eyes stay glued to the mammoth screen in front of you…

It provides a comfortable viewing environment, all the amenities you always wanted in a movie theater, and the best quality service for the least amount of money. Compared to other cinemas in the area, IMAX Cinemark 18 offers the cheapest tickets and the biggest selection of movies. The cost of tickets are as follows:

You can go shopping at the Pittsburgh Mills mall or play a round of putt-putt on the indoor course. Hungry for something other than movie snacks? Grab a bite to eat at one of the many nearby sit-down or fast food restaurants.

So next time you see a preview for a movie with awesome special effects, don’t watch it in anything other than an IMAX theater. It will blow your mind!
