Japanese anime have treated us with great battles with its unique styles, since their introduction to the States. They have given us fights with martial arts, giant mechas, magic duals, sword play, and even battles with strange creatures. These battles have been seen in almost every location imaginable, in the darkest reaches of space and even alternate worlds.
But perhaps the greatest of all these battles is the one brought to us by Akira Toriyama in a battle that lasted almost an entire season. Now a long battle that’s almost an entire season sounds great, but I can actually make it sound even better. You see some Japanese anime don’t have an off season like in other countries, because of this a single season can have up to 52 episodes, that’s one episode a week for an entire year, and “Dragon Ball Z” is just one of those shows.

The greatest fight I’ve ever seen is a complete war between two of the most powerful warriors in the universe. One of these two fighters is known as Frieza, the most powerful dictator in the entire universe. He’s ruthless and cunning and so powerful he could take down even the best fighters without getting up from his flying space chair.
According to Frieza his power level is 750,000; to put that in perspective Vegeta in the earlier season had a power level of about 15,000 to my own estimation of 20,000. With that amount of power Vegeta could concentrate it into an energy blast powerful enough to destroy the Earth; we can take this as true as we saw him blow up planet Aria before coming to Earth (Not seen in the Manga version). So Frieza is over 37 times stronger than that.
So Frieza is already a horribly powerful monster, but it gets worse… Frieza has the ability to transform. In this new form he is much taller and much fiercer; he also has a tough time controlling his power in that form. He claims that his power in his new form is one million the last time he clocked it, and we can take this as fact as he has acquired technology that can track energy levels.
It seems he can’t be beat; it couldn’t get worse, can it? As unbelievable as it is, he can transform two more times! In Frieza’s third form his appearance becomes similar to the space monster Alien and he’s much stronger and faster than he was before. This is actually his scariest looking form, but his next form is beyond imagining.
Frieza’s final form is pretty normal looking compared to his previous ones, but his power puts them to shame. This form is so strong it actually causes the prideful Vegeta, who could probably take Frieza’s third form now, to actually cry tears for the first time as he realizes he could never win.
As Vegeta is taken down by the seemingly invincible monster, our other fighter for the ultimate battle finally arrives. He received heavy damage earlier and had to spend the time in a healing tank while the others fought Frieza.
Son Goku is the main protagonist of the show and is a powerful martial artist in his own right. He’s fought powerful opponents before, but never anyone this powerful. Are hero starts off good in the battle, impressing his friends and Frieza with his new found strength he acquired after coming back from near death.
As Goku pushes forward, Frieza pushes back. Whenever Goku seems to knock Frieza down, he just gets back up with seemingly no damage taken from the blow; however we can see the damage Goku takes we he gets knocked down, but he won’t give in and keeps getting up. This starts to annoy Frieza as he reveals that he’s not even using half of his full power.
Goku knows he’s in a pinch, and decides he has no choice but to push his body beyond its limits. Goku happens to know of a special technique that’ll allow his body to expel power beyond its limits, but he’s already using it at times 10, if he goes any further he risks killing himself. He could pull of a times 20 for a brief moment but it still wouldn’t be enough if Frieza really is only using half his strength, but decided to use it anyway hoping that he was bluffing.
But he wasn’t… Though the quick power boost surprised Frieza and actually hurt him, he was able to knock his attack away.
Goku now weak only has one hope left, a Spirit Bomb (Genki Dama in the Japanese version). But to use this attack he has to draw on the life of everything and everyone around him. This makes an incredibly powerful attack but it takes too long to gather the energy and not much life is left on the planet there on.
Piccolo asks Gohan and Krillin to give him as much energy as they could spare so he could distract Frieza long enough for Goku to finish his Spirit Bomb. It was tough and Piccolo ended up getting a pounding, but Goku finished the spirit bomb and launched it at Frieza.
It seemed as though the battle was over, but Frieza survived the explosion. Angry he had enough of games and kills Krillin.
Engulf with rage at the lost of his friend, Goku transforms into the legendary Super Sayian, a warrior said to be the strongest in history. His new power pushes back the monster Fieza, but it’s not enough for Goku, he wants to fight Frieza at his full power.
Frieza complies and powers up to 100 percent. The final round begins, and it seems like they are evenly matched. Will Goku be able to defeat the unstoppable Frieza, or will Frieza defeat the last hope of the universe?
I don’t want to ruin the ending but I can tell you that Frieza has made it so the planet will explode in 5 minutes. Both of these fighters will be able to survive the explosion, but only Frieza can breathe in space. Go get the series and watch as they fight down to the planets destruction.
