The Dangers of Taking Methadone

Muscle Relaxer, Percocet

Have you been prescribed methadone? You may want to take a closer look into what it is and what it does to your body before you allow your doctor to prescribe you such a medicine. Methadone, in a nutshell is basically legal heroin. Although, not literally…it just gives you the same feeling as heroin does. That is why so many people such as heroin addicts get sent to what you hear called “methadone clinics’. Methadone is a synthetic opioid. It is a very dangerous substance that should be highly supervised when taking. Some of the more frequent uses of methadone involve the use of it to control extreme pain. This is a very strong medication and is said to be nonaddictive, although I have yet to see someone not become addicted to it. Methadone is a killer. People who take this drug tend to wind up dead more than anything. In my opinion, this drug should not be prescribed ever and should be removed from the pharmaceutical industry. There is a website for this as well it is harmd.org It stands for Helping America Reduce Methadone Deaths.

There are so many people dying from taking this drug that it is a wonder they have not removed it from the market. It is extremely easy to overdose from this drug due to the fact that it is not like most pain medications such as Lortab, Darvocet, or Percocet. It is more of a slow acting drug so it will stay in your system longer than these other drugs will. For example, if you take 1 methadone today and another one tomorrow, chances are that you are still going to be feeling the effects of the first one and not realize it because this medication is by far one of the strongest medications out there. If you know anyone who is being prescribed methadone, make sure they never take it with alcohol, a muscle relaxer, or a benzodiazapine. These drugs increase methadone’s effects and can kill you within a couple of hours. The most serious side effect of this drug besides death being the most serious of course, is shallow breathing, which is the side effect that leads to death in most cases. Most of the time, when someone has mixed this drug with something else, or they have accidentally taken 1 too many, they go to sleep and just never wake back up. This drug slows your breathing to the point of not breathing at all. For example, if you take one methadone and drink even half of a beer, that could be enough to kill you. If you know someone who you don’t think can handle this drug and has been prescribed it then you need to try to get them off of it and let them know the facts. Make sure to go to the website above, and if you know someone who has died from an accidental methadone overdose then you are not alone. Let’s spread the word, do our research, and state the facts: Methadone is not good for anyone and needs to be banned completely.
