The Cold Weather Package

Cold Weather, Running in Hot Weather, Windshield Wipers

Many times while buying a new car the customer is left with decisions they did not plan on making. Most manufacturers offer a model line with many different packages. The Cold Weather Package seems to be a big hit with automobile manufacturers everywhere. The question still remains, “Is the Cold Weather Package really worth the money out of pocket?”, or if it is a ploy to get you to spend or finance more.

The Cold Weather Package is not the same for all automobiles. The Cold Weather Package that I am focusing on here is the Subaru Cold Weather Package. This will include three major components. Heated seats, heated mirrors and heated windshield wipers are standard in the Cold Weather Package. It is listed as an option on any Subaru model above the base edition and standard in the Limited model line.

The Cold Weather Package typically runs anywhere from three hundred thirty nine dollars to four hundred twenty five dollars at invoice price. Ask to see the invoice price on this package. If the sales consultant says there is no invoice or only one price simply collect your belongings and walk away. The sticker price is four hundred and five hundred dollars depending on the model car with Subaru’s Cold Weather Package. It is my belief that if you are buying a car and the dealership is making money already they should sell the extras or packages at invoice to keep everyone’s spirits high and to seamlessly seal the deal. Nothing in this world is free so do not expect miracles but what is fair is fair. A small mark up on a car is enough. If you are not careful it can turn into a very costly mark up makign you think you paid too much for the Cold Weather Package. Pay attention to the cost of parts and packages.

Heated windshield wipers have been long over due in the world of the automobile and part of the Cold Weather Package. They are simply defrost orange lines in the windshield that provide a low voltage at all times to the wiper blades. On some models the lines are visible and on newer cars they might be blacked out and hidden. Heated windshield wipers are key to the Cold Weather Package. Never worry again about pulling the blades off the windshield in the winter months. Once the car is started the blades are automatically heated helping to keep consistency of the rubber and giving you peace of mind extending the life expectancy of the blades.

Heated seats are becoming the norm in the auto industry and staple in the Cold Weather Package. Now seats do not have to be leather just to be heated. Subaru offers heated cloth seats that are very popular in the Premium models. In the case of Subaru cars, Premium models with Cold Weather Package are easier found and have a better residual than a car that does not include them. Not opting for the Cold Weather Package can narrow your options or elongate the time it takes for your vehicle to arrive. The heated seats are the bread and butter of the Cold Weather Package making a remote start only more tempting.

Heated mirrors are a key component of the Cold Weather Package. If you have ever driven a car without heated mirrors during the winter months it can become very frustrating having to knock off ice without scraping or breaking a mirror. Heated mirrors are usually on at all times. A low voltage is being distributed to the mirrors making ice build up a thing of the past. One does not know how important the Cold Weather Package is until they have driven a car including it.

The Cold Weather Package is an absolute smart purchase. Even at the sticker price of five hundred dollars it is still a good deal. The cost of one heated seat installed in a car can be up to two hundred and fifty dollars at the dealership. The Cold Weather Package will keep your resale value high and more importantly keep you warm while you drive without the build up of ice or snow on your vehicles vital parts. Cars with the Cold Weather Package are easier found and do not add too much to the price of a lease, only a few dollars a month. The only negative is that once you drive with the Cold Weather Package you will never want to be without it.
