The Best Way to Clean a Deep Fryer

Dishwashing Liquid

There’s nothing quite as tasty as deep fried food. Sure it isn’t very health conscious to eat, but man does it taste good. Having your own deep fryer to make delicious deep fried treats can open up a lot of cooking options for you. However, deep fryers can be a real mess to clean since they are covered with grease.

Not only that, but you have to worry about the best way to dispose of the old grease before you can add new grease to cook your next meal or treat in here. Here are some tips on the best and easiest way to clean a deep fryer so your deep fried food will continue tasting great.

The first thing you should know is that you do not have to change the oil in the deep fryer every time you use it. You can reuse the old oil unless it has been used to cook foods that have strong smells or flavors that could affect the new food that you cook in it or if the oil is old.

Start cleaning your deep fryer by cooling the oil so that it is not piping hot, and then drain it out of the fryer. You can drain the oil into an old coffee can and seal it up to dispose of it without creating a huge mess.

Next, use a spatula to thoroughly scrape any old food or stuck-on oil off of the inside of the fryer. Once you have scraped any of the large stuff out of it use a paper towel to remove any remaining residue. You want as much of the oil to be removed from the fryer before you start washing it as possible to make cleaning it easier.

Now you will want to fill up your deep fryer with water to the same level that you fill it with oil and add some grease-fighting dishwashing liquid to the water. You don’t need a lot of dishwashing liquid – just enough to help break up the remaining oil and make washing the deep fryer easier.

Plug in the deep fryer and allow it to heat up until the water starts to boil. After the water is boiling leave it running for about 10 minutes to let it go to work on getting rid of the remaining oil in your deep fryer. The motion of the bubbles will help to “scrub” and dislodge any stuck on oil or food. After about 10 minutes unplug the deep fryer and allow the water to cool a bit before dumping it out.

Once the water has cooled, dump it out and rinse your deep fryer thoroughly using clean, clear water. You want to make sure to rinse all of the dishwashing liquid and old oil out of the fryer, so do a good job.

You can clean the outside of the fryer using a 1 to 1 mix of baking soda and water or corn flour and water. The baking soda or corn flour will help to dissolve grease and oil and will leave your deep fryer looking as good as new. Rinse any residue and dry the outside of your deep fryer with paper town or cloth.

While you are cleaning your deep fryer always keep in mind that you should not submerge it in water since it has an electrical cord.
