New York City is known for its nightlife. With new clubs opening every year, there’s dozens of places to go out and have a night of dancing to some great techno music. These are the best techno dance clubs in New York City.

Hiro

Hiro is a fantastic club spot that’s actually held in a hotel ballroom. Located in the Maritime Hotel, it is a two-floor, Japanese style hot spot that an upscale clientele flocks to. Filled with paper lanterns and votive candle, this club has a very sexy feel.

You must be 21 or over to enter, and dress to impress (no jeans, no hats, no sneakers), as the bouncer’s can be tough. It’s an expensive space so it’ll be easy to drop hundreds of dollars on drinks and food.

There are no specific techno nights, but it’s more about what DJ will be playing that night. Two DJs who have recently passed through are DJ Matthew Dear, whose popular for his mixing of acid techno, and the ever famous Moby, who actually does sets here pretty often.

The price depends on who is Djing, but Thursday nights are always free.

It is worth going at least once to see how beautiful this ballroom turned club really is.

Cielo

Another one of the best techno clubs in New York is Cielo… if you can get in. Known for its tough bouncers and beautiful patrons, Cielo is the place to be. And once you get through the door, it’s not really as uptight as it would seem. It’s really a great place to let your hair down.

It is a 21 and over establishment, and dress to impress as always. Every night is techno and electronica. DJ Spooky as spun there several times with his unique blend of hip hop and electronica, that he calls “illbient” or “trip hop. He’s usually a big hit at Cielo.

Prices can vary depending on the event, from as little as $15 to as much as $50.

Club Exit

If you don’t mind taking a trip to Brooklyn, you are in for a good night with some great techno music. Club Exit, although an 18 and over club, is actually one of the most fun night clubs around. Because of the lower age minimum, this is a very non-pretentious crowd. The floors are zebra printed giving it a wild décor. The downstairs is all about dancing; upstairs is a nice lounge area.

Usually Saturdays are your house and trance music parties, though Friday nights are special events and sometimes those include raves. The likes of DJ Tiesto have been here, who is one of the world’s most famous trance DJs.

It is cash only at the door. Dress code is a little more lenient, they allow jeans, as long as they are not baggy. No athletic wear and no sneakers, so lady you can wear your best top and jeans and some nice heels and guys, get rid of the Timberland boots and put on something a little nicer. Still, a much more relaxed code and atmosphere compared to the clubs in Manhattan.
