The 10 Worst X-Files Episodes of the First 7 Seasons

Gillian Anderson, Steven King, X Files

I am one of the die-hard fans of the television show, the X-Files known as X-Philes. I wanted to do a ten best episodes list, but everyone does a ten best list, so I decided to do a ten worst list instead.

I only include the first 7 seasons because I don’t count the last 2 seasons as part of the show, that was a different show altogether.

10) Chinga: Steven King wrote this episode and I love Steven King, but this story is a little odd-even for the X-Files. Mulder has to stay in DC to work, and Scully has gone on a vacation. While she’s away, she stumbles in the middle of a town’s crisis- everyone in the grocery store is clawing their eyes out.The locals believe that it’s witchcraft, but there’s no witch, just an autistic girl with her very spooky doll.I’m with Mulder on this one, the story is too much like a Chucky story. I’m sorry to say that the greatest supernatural horror writer of any time wrote one of the worst X-Files episodes ever.

9) Drive: This is the first X-Files episode that I have ever seen. It is centered around a radio tower that is transmitting a frequency that will kill anyone who can hear it and doesn’t move toward it. Of course once you get there, you die anyway because you can’t move toward it anymore. My question, why didn’t more people in this episode go crazy and explode?

8) The Amazing Maleeni: This episode is about the biggest trick ever, but it became too much of a carnival to make the body in it seem serious. Even Gillian Anderson has stated this. One of the gags were just plain stupid and added to the cartoonish nature of the show. C’mon, how many cartoons have a gun that shoots flags that say “bang” on them?

7) The list: This episode is about a man on Death Row who made a list of 5 people who he would kill when he became reincarnated. They toss around the word “reincarnation”, but they need to look into the meaning of that word. Reincarnation is when the soul of someone is reborn into a new body. The guy killing the people on the list-who is supposed to be reincarnated-from a guy who died 6 months ago-is about 40-something! I think they needed to use the word “possession” instead.

6) Space: This episode talked about the space program and the Challenger mission, but it was made way too soon after the space shuttle blew up. This episode also had crappy special-effects and was boring.

5) Fire-Walker: This episode is about a newly discovered life-form and it’s effects on humans. I felt this episode was ripe with over-acting. One question: Why-if one spore could do these things to you, did Scully not get infected when there was a whole cloud of them near her?

4) Shapes: A werewolf that shows up once every 8 years? The X-Files should stay away from werewolves, they made this episode too much like a 50s B movie. This episode was during the 1st season, Why didn’t they do another in the 9th?

3) 3 (yes the 3rd worst episode is entitled :3″): Like werewolves, the X-Files should stay far away from vampires as well. This episode was completely unbelievable in 3 ways. The Bible passage isn’t from the bible, Mulder’s instant attraction to Kristen Kilar, and how does a vampire die in the sun and then return to being alive?

2) Je Souhaite: A genie story, Je Souhaite is the usual you get what you wish for story. They do the “I Dream of Genie” theme song, but this episode was a sad take on that old show. They should have stayed away from genies as well.

1) Fight Club: This episode contains 2 sister who supernaturally cause fights whenever they so much as hear about one another, their father who screams everything that he says, a pair of brothers who also cause fights, and an ending where both brothers and sisters are in the same room at once. This episode was extremely insane and even if I had included all of the worst shows from seasons 8 and 9, this still would be the worst episode.

There’s my unorthodox list of the ten worst shows of all time. Many may not agree with me on these, but “to each his own”, right?
