Tea Party Games for Children

Dress Up, Games for Children, Guessing Game, Tea Party Games

So your child informed you that she and her friends would like to have a tea party. Sounds like no big deal, right? Of course not because I have some great ideas to make sure that your child’s tea party is perfect.

By now you have invited all of the children over but where do you go from there? Of course when you had a tea party when you were a child, it consisted of yourself and a slew of teddy bears that sat quietly at a table and offered no objections. But children, well, they are different.

Parties that include children always work well when games are involved. Here are a few great ideas for tea party games that will keep the children having a great time.

Tea Time Dress Up

This game can work in two ways. You can either have the children bring some dress up clothes to the tea party or you can go to your local thrift store and purchase them for the children to use. The clothing doesn’t have to be in children’s sizes. We all remember the days of dressing up in one of our mother’s or grandmother’s dresses and high heels.

You’ll want the following in the dress up trunk (or have the children bring):

1. A fancy hat
2. A dress (or if boys are involved, a dress up suit)
3. Jewelry (necklaces, rings, earrings, etc)
4. Shoes (Children’s dress up shoes might work best for this due to safety)

Once the children get to the party and are settled, you can have them dress up. The choice is yours on what you would like them to do. They can dress up and have a costume contest or you can have a timed contest where the first party-goer to get ready for the tea party wins.

Learning Etiquette

Take a paper place mat and draw a tea setup. Make sure to place one for each child. Tell the children to take a look at the place mat and study it really good for about a minute or two. Have each child stand up and turn around, facing away from the table. Go around to each of the children and remove the place mat, in turn placing a set of the items you drew on the place mat (it may be a cup, saucer, spoon, etc). After you are all done, tell the children to turn around and place each of the items in the spot where they go according to the place mat.

The Guessing Game

No party would be complete without a guessing game. You can take a colorful teapot that you have and fill it up with sugar cubes. Let the children take a peak at it, looking inside, and have them guess how many sugar cubes are in the teapot. Of course, the one who is the closest wins.

You can take these games and enhance them to make them your own or to fit with the group of children that you shall be hosting this tea party for. Make sure to have lots of neat tea party prizes and goodies for all of the children who played in the tea party games.
