Tampa Bay’s Best Family Beaches

Pinellas County, St. Pete Beach, Tampa Bay Area

There are tons of beaches in the Tampa Bay area and each one is unique and comes with it’s own set of pros and cons, especially when heading to the beach with your family. The most well known Tampa Bay area beaches, Clearwater and St. Pete Beach are often the beaches you may want to avoid taking your children to, because of the large crowds and people consuming alcohol. If you are looking for a safe and beautiful Tampa bay area beach to take your family, one of these three Pinellas County beaches will be sure to please everyone in your family.

Best Family Beach In Tampa Bay #1: Ft Desoto Beach- The North Beach

Ft. Desoto Beach is a Pinellas County park located on the tip of the Pinellas County peninsula. Ft. Desoto Park offers a large variety of activities, including camping, fishing, playgrounds and even a dog park. The beach also has large picnic pavilions equipped with grills, bathroom and shower facilities. However, the main thing most families love about Ft Desoto’s north beach is the shells. This family friendly Tampa Bay area beach is loaded with giant shells and whole sand dollars. To find the shells whole, have your family wade out into the water and feel for the shells with their feet.

A major concern when visiting any Tampa Bay area beach, especially with your family is finding parking. Ft. Desoto offers plenty of free parking. There is however a small fee, less than fifty cents, to enter the park payable at a toll booth at the entrance of the park.

Best Family Beach In Tampa Bay #2: Pass-A-Grille Beach

I will always remember my first visit to Pass-A-Grille Beach, a beach I had always neglected as a college student for the other major beaches in the Tampa Bay area. The instant I saw the water I knew this beach was going to become my favorite beach in Pinellas County. Pass-A-Grills water is the beautiful blue green color that should grace the color of every Florida post card.

What makes this Tampa Bay area beach so family friendly is its lack of people compared to the other beaches. Pass-A-Grille beach is also a great beach for shelling, has plenty of parking, and the walk from your car to the surf is extremely short. Which is very important, because we all know the amount of stuff required when going to the beach with your family. Head to Pass-A-Grille beach with your family if you are looking for a calm, relaxing, and beautiful day at the beach.

Best Family Beach In Tampa Bay #3: Indian Rocks Beach

Very few people when thinking of which beach to go to in Tampa Bay consider Indian Rocks Beach. This beach’s lack of publicity has left it relatively untouched by tourists and partying crowds. While the beach can barely be seen from the road thanks to the large condominiums lining the shore, its is beautiful. Your family will love building sand castles and looking for shells at this family friendly Pinellas County beach. The only drawback of this beach is it’s lack of parking. If you are coming from out of town, consider renting a condo on this beach, which often costs less than a hotel room on one of the bigger beaches in the area.
