Homemade Facial Masks, Natural Beauty Products, Natural Skincare

In any grocery or drug store you will see a multitude of facial beauty products. The ages old search for beauty continues to lead to the development of more products everyday. However, there are many things a woman can do to take care of facial skin naturally.

The skin is your largest body organ. Your skin’s health begins from the inside out with proper nutrition, so one of the biggest steps you can do is try to eat right. Be sure to include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Fresh is always best, then comes frozen and canned as a last choice.

There are some things you can use for facial care right from your kitchen cupboard, but others you may wish to buy from a store. At one time natural beauty products could primarily only be found at natural health food stores. Though those stores still have the largest selection, you can find many natural beauty products now being sold in even some stores like Target and Walmart.

I prefer to use natural products whenever possible to avoid the harsh chemicals present in many products. Natural skin care is something I have taught to my daughter as well. Around our house if a pimple starts up, we both reach for the tea tree oil to dab on the spot. According to an article about Tea Tree Oil on Medline Plus, “Applying a 5% tea tree oil gel appears to be as effective as 5% benzoyl peroxide for treating acne.” Here are some more of my favorite natural skin care tips :

  • Pat face dry. Patting is gentler to the skin than rubbing.
  • Use rosewater applied with a cotton ball as a toner after washing your face. It will help tighten pores and smells great too!
  • Drink at least 8 glasses of fluids, especially water, daily to hydrate the skin.
  • Dealing with pimples and zits : Do not attempt to pop, apply a warm compress for a few minutes, and apply a dab of tea tree essential oil with a clean fingertip or cotton swab on the spot.
  • Apply a facial mask once a week. For normal to dry skin apply honey, which has soothing properties. For oily skin apply a mask made from betonite clay or french green clay mixed with a little water to form a paste. Apply to skin, allow to dry, and wash off with a warm washcloth.

One warning is facial skin can be more sensitive, so it may be wise to try a small test spot on your hand first before applying something to your whole face. I have learned this from having a few mild reactions to attempts at including certain fruits in some of my homemade facial masks. I still continue to prefer using natural skincare as part of my daily life. Natural skincare can not only help you avoid harsh chemicals, but it can also save you a little money.
