Summertime Backyard Water Games

Water Balloons, Water Toys

Summer time is finally upon us. Many families don’t have the luxury of a swimming pool at their home, but there are still plenty of water games that can be played in your very own backyard. These games can help keep children of all ages entertained throughout the summer season.

Something as simple as a garden sprinkler will keep kids happy. Just hook the sprinkler to your water hose and turn on the faucet. Kids can run through the water as it sprays out of the sprinkler. They can have fun hopping, jumping and skipping through the water, and it is a great way to cool off from the summer heat.

Shooting water guns is another fun backyard activity for those hot days. Fill a big bucket with water so your kids can refill their guns without having to track through the house. This is an activity that children of many ages can enjoy, even teenagers. They can spend hours in the yard blasting each other with water and have a lot of fun doing it.

Spraying a trampoline down with a water hose is a good idea for some summer fun. Kids can put on their bathing suits and jump on the wet trampoline. This is especially fun when they have a few of their friends over.

Playing water limbo with friends and family is another way to cool off. Use your water hose with a nozzle and have someone hold it producing a steady stream. Each person will take their turn trying to get under the stream without touching the water. After each turn, lower the stream of water. The winner is the only one left in the game that can get under the lowest stream of water. This could be a great game for a summer birthday party and reward the winner with a small party prize.

A slip-n-slide can create hours of fun. Lay out the slip-n-slide on level ground, hook a water hose to the slide to produce the water to keep it wet. Everyone can enjoy running and sliding down a pool of water. You can also make a fun game out of it; each person can see which one can slide the farthest. Have fun, but do be careful, as the ground around the slide will get wet and you could fall while running.

If you are a parent of a toddler, there is fun for them in the backyard as well. Just go to your local department store and purchase a kiddy pool. These pools usually don’t cost very much. Your little one can enjoy the water and splash around and play with water toys. Adults can also sit in the pool with them as well.

Many kids love water balloons. Turn these balloons into summer fun by filling them and letting each one throw the balloons at one another. This is a very inexpensive way to keep children entertained. This summer activity is also a great one for summer birthday parties, picnics and more.

If you don’t own a swimming pool, don’t let that put a damper on your summer fun. Choose one or more of these games to cool off on a hot day, and most of all, have fun while doing so.
