Austin is home to many clubs and bar districts for those tourists who are looking for night life. Austin is also home to dozens of outdoor activities for the active and ready to run!

Austin is home to a very diverse crowd and also has a variety of things to do for any type of person.

For those interested in bats, look no furthur. Austin has more than 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that emerge and drift throughout the city at night. This sight is not worth the trip alone, it is just an added bonus to a vacation.

Austin Texas also has dozens of concerts and live music options throughout the summer. While Austin is not known for its geographical highlights, there are activities that cater to the fit and active person.

One highlight of Austin is the Barton Creek Greenbelt. This strip of green stretches throughout Austin and westward for 7.5 miles. The strip also includes many side trails and ends at the Hill of Life. The Hill of Life is a quarter mile climb which is great for those who lead a more active lifestyle.

The Greenbelt is popular with hikers and wanderers so bikers need to be careful. The dozens of stray away trails make an enjoyable ride and there is also a great Bicycle Sport Shop which makes renting a bike or two easy.

Another trail making Austin a great place to bike is the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail. The trail runs 10.4 miles and it runs mainly along the Colorado River and the Southern Border of downtown. This trail is also great for getting an up close and personal look at Austin.

The western half of the trail is surrounded by trees and the interstate involves crossing Interstate 35.

Austin also has a great swim area at the Barton Springs Pool. The area includes three acres of spring fed swimming, just like out of a movie.

The swimming area is open year round, jump in and hold your breath. The temperature is always about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The pool is surrounded by trees and is often crowded, but the crowds drawn to the area are quite diverse and varied.

For Mexican food lovers, Matt’s El rancho is a large and busy restaurant on Lamar Blvd. Matt’s is known for its exceptional enchiladas and margaritas. There are also some great barbecue joints including Stubb’s Bar-B-Q and Sam’s Bar-B-Que. The two compete for attention and both tend to have live music and incredible barbecue.

The nightlife in Austin is also a definite attraction for tourists and locals alike. Austin’s sixth street is the hot spot when it comes to night clubs. Austin is home to Mother Egan’s Irish Pub where the Dixie Chicks once ruled the Tuesday night trivia contest.

Austin’s live music is also a lure to tourists on a summer getaway. Guitar strummers literally fill the streets. The Continental Club on Congress Avenue is known for producing great live music.

Austin is also known as Honky-tonk heaven. Dale Watson and Alvin Crow are some musicians that are featured at the Broken
Spoke. The Broken Spoke is the kind of country club where cowboy boots and spokes are in the majority, the perfect place to visit for those who consider themselves true Westerners.
