Starbucks’ Skinny Drinks: A Healthier Alternative to Your Morning Routine

Every morning, millions of individuals all over the globe start their morning visiting their local Starbucks. Starbucks was one of my favorite places to stop on the way to work each morning, until I changed my lifestyle and realized the amount of calories I was consuming in a venti caramel frappuccino every day. I started only stopping by Starbucks occasionally, and even at that, I would only get a standard cup of coffee and add sweetener. However, Starbucks has just recently introduced a line of ‘skinny’ drinks – that is, drinks lower in calories. The new drinks are made with nonfat milk and sugar free syrups, so even the weight conscious consumer will be running to get the skinny drink!

The new Skinny latte’s are made with sugar-free syrup in five different flavors. The flavors that are currently being offered include Caramel, Cinnamon Dulce, Vanilla, Mocha, and Raspberry. The latter’s are also available in the iced variation. Each latte has significantly less calories that the regular drinks. The tall size (12 ounces) contains 90 calories and no fat, the grande size (16 ounces) contains 130 calories and no fat, and the venti size (20 ounces) contains 160 calories and no fat. The nutritional information is the same for the iced variations. In comparison, the normal syrup flavored latte that is the tall size (12 ounces) contains 190 calories and 5 grams of fat, the grande size (16 ounces) contains 250 calories and 6 grams of fat, and the venti size (20 ounces) contains 320 calories and 8 grams of fat. This is a huge savings of calories for ordering the Skinny versions of these drinks!

The taste of the skinny lattes are excellent. I would have expected the quality of taste to decline with the decline of calories, but it has not. The taste, to me, is the same as the regular version, if not better! The drinks are lighter tasting and are just absolutely wonderful. I would recommend to anyone that is trying to cut back on calories to give these Skinny drinks a chance.

In the past, Starbucks introduced light frappuccinos. The light frappuccinos were good, but to me there was a difference I could easily detect in the light frappuccino versus the normal frappuccino. This was not the case with the skinny latte’s. With such a wonderful taste, less calories and no fat, the new Starbucks Skinny line of drinks is definitely for anyone that is wanting to be “skinny”!
