It cost just $0.99 for a 255g roll of Soy Chorizo by Reynaldo’s. It looked much like a meat-based product, but once I noticed the word “soy”, I knew I had to give this product a try.
Ingredients
Soy Chorizo by Reynaldo’s contains water, textured soy protein, soybean oil, paprika, salt, vinegar, red pepper, spices, potassium sorbate as a preservative and garlic. As this is a vegetarian product, it does not contain pork; nor is not encased in intestines.
Each 70g serving size of Soy Chorizo by Reynaldo’s contains 150 calories, 90 of which are from fat, 1.5g saturated fat, 590mg sodium, 8g carbohydrate, less than 1g dietary fibre, 3g sugar and 10g protein. In addition, Soy Chorizo by Reynaldo’s contains 140% vitamin A, 135% beta carotene, 20% calcium and 8% iron. This product is low in saturated fat and cholesterol-free. But it is quite high in sodium, which means those with high blood pressure need to go easy on it.
Taste
My husband and I used Soy Chorizo in a batch of homemade Spaghetti Bolognese sauce. As soon as we added the Soy Chorizo to the pan, the ingredients turned bright red. The sauce looked very spicy. I wondered if I would like it. When I tried the sauce, I found it quite salty, but it was filling and tasty.
Soy Chorizo cost just $0.99 for a 255g roll, which is good value for money. If you want to enjoy the taste of “chorizo” as a vegetarian or as a meat eater without the fat and calories of pork chorizo, try Soy Chorizo by Reynaldo. However, this product is quite salty, which means it is not suitable for those who are trying to keep their blood pressure under control. A little goes a long way.
