South Park Attacks Oprah

A Million Little Pieces, James Frey

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge South Park fan. I find their humor socially funny most of the time, and, at the very least (if they miss their mark) I can laugh at the poop and fart jokes. Recently, however, they have come under more fire than ever with the airing of their tenth season. So far this year they have taken on Isaac Hayes, the entire church of Scientology, the Mohammed cartoon scandal, Catholics, 1st amedment rights and now Oprah Winfrey. NOTE: They might have spurred the most controversy on the Wednesday before Easter when they showed Jesus pooping on President Bush’s head (I realize that just sounds stupid and completely unnecessary, but believe me, it worked in the context of the episode). This most recent episode was a strange one, and not because of the three main reasons why it SHOULD have been strange. These reasons are…

1. All of the main characters were not in it (ie; the pottymouth kids)
2. It didn’t take place in South Park (I can only recall this happening once before in 100+ episodes)
and
3. It featured a talking towel who likes to get high (this isn’t actually weird at all because the Towelie character is awesome and has been featured before)

No, it was strange for another reason. [WARNING: In the next paragraph or so I am just going to describe what happened in the episode. Stop reading if you are A) an easily offended person B) a member of the Oprah Book Club or C) an ardent fan of Geraldo Rivera.]

The plot of this episode was basically a spoof on the James Frey/A Million Little Pieces/Oprah scandal that was all over the news a couple of months ago. I won’t get into the specifics of it, and if you don’t know about that scandal, you wouldn’t know what I was talking about anyway. I do want to talk a side plot that revolved around Oprah’s vagina (Minge) and her asshole (Gary). Minge and Gary (voiced with a mixture of Austrailian and Scotish accents for some reason) were very upset because Oprah never played with them anymore, because she was so busy. After trying to ruin her career so she would be forced to retire and have more time with them, all hell breaks loose and they take a bunch of audience members hostage and kill a cop. What?

It gets better. Gary, the asshole, is shot dead by a sniper (only after puking out some diarrhea first). Distraught, Oprah’s vagina, Minge, turns the gun and kills himself. Oh yeah, and Geraldo Rivera was in this episode for some reason and he talked with a gay voice and had very flamboyant mannerisms.

Now that I have just explained all that, I am not sure where I was going with this article. That episode confused me because it wasn’t like any other. Most South Park episodes have a message, but that one just seemed like a blatant attack of Oprah Winfrey. I guess I just wanted to state publically that I found Oprah’s talking vagina and asshole funny. I’m not sure what this says about me, feel free to form your own opinion.
