Sony has recently announced the introduction of two new products that will join their audio/video car system. The XAV-W1 is Sony’s first double din sized visual entertainment system that can give users great picture and sound quality, personalization options and easy connectivity to MP3 players. The MEX-DV2000, on the other hand, is a single din player with multi-channel playback.
The XAV-W1 supports Super Audio CD audio format and has a 5.1 channel surround sound option. The XAV-W1 includes a 7 inch WVGA TFT video screen, supports Dolby Digital surround sound and DTS digital Surround sound processing playback, JPEG video format, and WMA and MP3 audio formats. Aside from delivering clear videos and crisp sounds, the XAV-W1 comes iPod and satellite radio ready and if you have extra cash to spare, you can buy the iPod controller and Sony’s HD Radio tuner to have additional HD radio channels while on the road. The XAV-W1 system can playback DVDs, DVD-R/RW, SA-CD, VCD, CD and CD-R and incorporates the Sony Drive S II which makes the head unit resistant to any vibrations.
Other features of the XAV-W1 includes customization options through personalized wallpapers and sound settings, ability to connect to other audio-video devices aside from the iPod like game players or video cameras, the driver can actually connect a rear-monitor camera to the system to help him drive. The system also includes a remote control and has a 3.5mm mini-plug input to connect with portable MP3 Players, however the rear auxiliary audio input with audio cable is not included.
Brenna Mullin, Vice President of Audio at Sony’s Digital Imaging and Audio Division said that the XAV-W1 offers an easy in-car listening environment and customers and really see and hear the difference.
The MEX-DV2000 on the other hand is only a single din stereo with multi-channel playback and also has Dolgy Digital surround sound and DTS digital surround sound processing playback, JPEG video format, and WMA and MP3 audio formats. This player delivers 52 watts through 4 channels and has a white key illumination to compliment the dashboard. The MEX-DV2000 also incorporates the Sony Drive S II, is also iPod and satellite radio ready, can playback DVD, DVD-R/RW, SA-CD, VCD, CD and CD-R and comes with a remote control and auxiliary input.
The XAV-W1 will cost $800 and will be available starting August while the MEX-DV2000 costs $280 and is available now at Sony dealers nationwide.
