Songs for Father’s Day, Birthdays or Just Because

Amy Grant, Conway Twitty

If you’re searching for a song to show your father how much he means to you and how grateful you are for him, here’s a long list of good “Dad” songs. For Father’s Day, birthdays, weddings or just because, use these songs in a mix CD, dedicate one to him on the radio, or write the lyrics in a card.

Pop/Rock

Cat’s In the Cradle” by Harry Chapin – This song is more for sons than daughters. The lyrics are about how a boy becomes like his father.

Father’s Eyes” by Amy Grant – Talks about the good traits a father passes to his children.

“Daddy’s Girl” by Peter Cetera – Expresses the father-daughter bond from little girl to womanhood.

“Dad” by K’s Choice – This is more of an alternative group, and the message is more from a daughter’s point of view. It’s an “I’m sorry for the hell I put you through as a teenager” song.

“Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dion – Expresses the power of a father’s love.

“You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban – Again, the power of a father’s love.

“You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago – This one’s pretty self-explanatory.

Country

“The Greatest Man I Never Knew” by Reba McEntire – In my opinion, the best Dad song there is. Says that even though he’s not a saint, and you didn’t always get along, he’s still a hero in your eyes.

“Daddy’s Hands” by Holly Dunn – This song says that, friend or disciplinarian, Dad loved you no matter what.

There You’ll Be” by Faith Hill – Says that throughout life, whether a father is physically there or not, his love and strength guide his children.

“In This Life” by Collin Raye – Says how important a father’s love is and the impact it makes on a child.

“Thanks Again” by Ricky Skaggs – This songs says that the small tokens of appreciation we give our fathers don’t come close to expressing how important they were in our childhoods.

A Friend to Me” by Garth Brooks – Talks about the father/child bond.

“Through the Years” by Kenny Rogers – The consistency of fatherly love.

Song For Dad” by Keith Urban – A sweet song about the likenesses of a father and adult son.

“He Didn’t Have to Be” by Brad Paisley – This song is perfect for those with foster/step-fathers.

“A Love Without End, Amen” by George Strait – About the unconditional love of a father.

That’s My Job” by Conway Twitty – A great song about Dad always being there for his children.
