I found SingSnap in October 2009, although the site has existed for several years. In the short time that I have been a member, I have been overwhelmed by the quality of the service, the variety of the songs that they offer, and mostly — the amazing community that supports the site.
It’s very easy to register for a ‘blue’ (free) account. Blue membership entitles singers to perform up to 100 recordings from a limited, but still large, selection of music. As of this writing, there were approximately 17,000 songs available to blue members.
The nice thing about SingSnap’s free membership offerings, as compared to those of other online karaoke sites, is that you can reach your maximum of 100 songs, but then have the option to delete some and re-record others. So, basically, you can remain free forever and enjoy a generous amount of benefits.
SingSnap also offers message boards and a chatroom where performers can sing live for each other via webcam or just audio. These features are also extended to blue accounts.
If you would like a greater experience on the site, and access to much more music, you can join as a ‘gold’ member. Gold membership includes enhanced features such as pitch modification, minor sound effects, ‘inner circles’ (private clubs within the site where you can interact with select members of your choosing), status updates and much more!
Gold membership costs approximately $12 per month, or you can pay an annual fee of $120. Storage is currently unlimited for gold members, so you can sing until your hearts content and never have to delete a recording.
The community of singers is what truly makes SingSnap a special place. From the moment I joined, I was greeted with warm welcomes and encouraging comments from others around the globe. Singers receive almost immediate feedback on their recordings, and the majority of users are incredibly supportive and kind with their remarks.
The talent pool on SingSnap is vast and varied! I was awed by the sheer quality of professionals and amateurs who use the site. So many creative individuals, many of whom record their own original music via a ‘blank template’ provided by SingSnap.
The company president, Trevor, personally interacts with the community on a daily basis. Changes to the site are announced via the SingSnap blog, or with video recordings and/or posts on the site’s forum. It is rare that you get to interact so directly with the management of a business, but that is what also sets SingSnap apart. Their staff & volunteers truly care about the product and the people.
Feedback is listened to, considered and often implemented in to site updates. The company even provides ways for its membership to sponsor other members, who may not be able to financially support a gold membership on their own.
There are contests and competitions that performers can participate in, challenging your skill level, and giving you an opportunity to promote your recordings.
The SingSnap recording system is very easy to use and only requires you to have a microphone connected to your PC.
Some members invest in top quality equipment, which in turn improves the overall sound of their recordings. However, this isn’t absolutely necessary.
I have been recording my songs on an inexpensive ($10) headset microphone that I purchased at a discount store, and I have been happy with the results.
Overall, after having surfed the web for comparable sites to sing at, I truly feel that SingSnap offers the best service and options to karaoke lovers!
