Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus

Steve Guttenberg

This hallmark channel movie was a cute, somewhat sappy, film about Santa Claus’s son, Nick. He had to find a wife by this Christmas because it was time for him to start taking over the family business and he needed a Mrs. Claus to help. Nick starts to fall for a girl who doesn’t quite believe in Santa… and doesn’t really honor the Christmas spirit. She’s a work-a-holic with a young son. Can he win her over? Is she even the girl for him?

Actors
Steve Guttenberg played a great member of the Claus family. He was upbeat, happy, and nice all around… exactly what you would think Santa would be like.
He’s a real kid-friendly actor that both adults and children should enjoy.

Crystal Bernard is a good match for Steve. She’s friendly, but has a little chip on her shoulder from some failed Christmas wishes. Now she’s sucked up in her job and doesn’t seem to think about Christmas much at all. Can Steve turn her around? You can probably guess!

Armin Shimerman plays Nick’s helper. He’s trying to help him get a wife candidate by Christmas. He’s a stressed out man that added a little humor to the movie.

Dominic Scott Kay was cute as Beth’s son. One of the things that bugs me about “The Santa Claus” is how annoying the little boy is in that movie. So I really appreciated that Dominic was not at all annoying! He believed, and he was excited when he learned more about Santa, but he doesn’t go crazy or anything annoying like that. He’s just a cute, innocent kid!

My Thoughts
This fits right on the Hallmark channel as a sweet but corny movie! It puts you in the Christmas spirit as you start to imagine that not only is Santa Claus real, but that there’s an entire family of Clauses and the Santa job has been passed down from generation to generation. They make the North Pole, Santa and Mrs. Claus look like your everyday family and household, just with a little Christmas twist.

All of the characters where nice and enjoyable. They did a good job of getting into character and making the whole plot seem more realistic. This movie doesn’t have the magic that you see in newer Santa Claus movies, but it does have the stories. These stories, and the explanations Nick gives for things, make the whole Santa thing seem all the more probable! In the newer movies, Santa Claus and all his deeds are done with lots of magical things. In this movie, although magic is a factor, they make being Santa more of a full time job that requires time and effort more than magic.

But that’s about all I can say about the movie. It’s really quite simple without a lot of frills and thrills. They don’t have big jokes, they don’t have big twists, and they don’t have many surprises. Single Santa Seeks Mrs. Claus is fairly predictable just like most holiday movies are! However, it’s still fun to watch because it is a relaxing movie. You can sit back, grab a cup of cocoa, and just go into the dream world this movie creates!
