The Backyardigans is a show on Nickelodeon that even parents can find entertaining. (At least I do!) My daughter loves the vivid colors, dancing, and songs. My favorite part about the show is the wonderful 3-dimensional feel of the animation. Another wonderful aspect of the show is the music. Each Backyardigan’s episode is a mini musical adventure! Uniqua, Pablo, Tyrone, Tasha, and Austin are pre-school friends who let their imaginations take them away in their backyard oasis. They invite your child to participate in the adventure and learn a useful lesson at the same time. The Backyardigan’s line of products has become enhanced recently, so we just had to get my daughter her own Backyardigan pals.
We opted to get her two of the collectable Singing Backyardigans. These plastic toys not only feature the character, but also the character in a specific episode. She has Tyrone, the easy going moose as Cowboy Tyrone. This colorful toy talks and sings with a press of his sheriff’s badge button. He says actual lines and sings songs from the episode. “Ridin’ the Range” is our favorite tune from the “hip-hop musical.” He also comes with a removable banjo. The toys dimensions are: 7.5″ x 3″.
The other Singing Backyardigan we purchased was Pablo. Pablo is an excitable and enthusiastic penguin. This version is from the surfing episode. This Backyardigan toy also features bright colors and a unique costume from the episode. By pressing his tiki totem on his neck, you can hear lines from the show and songs from that specific musical episode. “Surfs up, ho daddy,” is our favorite. This catchy song gets my daughter up and dancing every time! Backyardigan Pablo also comes with a special surf board stand that detaches from his feet. The toy has similar measurements.
We purchased ours at Wal-Mart for $9.99. I have also spotted them at other stores for a similar price. I would definitely recommend these toys for the Backyardigan’s fan. They are fun and vivid just like the characters on the show. My daughter has enjoyed dancing and singing along with the songs the Backyardigan’s sing. I must also add that the Backyardigans are tough and have survived my daughter dropping them numerous times. I have also spotted a Backyardigan Uniqua version of the toy as featured in the “snow-going” episode. I hope they have the other ones available also because we plan on furthering her collection by purchasing the other Backyardigan characters too!
