Sharon Osbourne and Other Celeb Moms Who Stood Up for Their Kids

Don’t mess with one of Sharon Osbourne’s kids!

The fiercely protective mom is engaged in a war of words with Lady Gaga — and she’s not afraid of any fallout from the pop star’s little monsters.

The feud started over Gaga’s fans, who have allegedly been bullying Mrs. O’s 28 year-old daughter, Kelly Osbourne. After a particularly nasty blog post from one of Gaga’s diehards, Sharon addressed the situation with Gaga’s peeps. It was then that the “Born This Way” singer constructed an open letter to the younger Osbourne, pointing a finger at her and slamming her “Fashion Police” stint on E!, saying it “breeds negativity.”

“It glorifies you and Joan Rivers pointing in the camera, laughing, and making jokes about artists and celebrities as if we are zoo animals,” Gaga wrote.

In a scathing Facebook post, Sharon blasted Lady Gaga for the open letter, and added: “I am calling you a bully because you have 32 million followers hanging on your every word and you are criticizing Kelly in your open letter. Are you so desperate that you needed to make this public?” She also called the singer “vile,” and “a hypocrite and an attention seeker.”

This isn’t the first time “The View” star has come to the defense of one of her kids. Last summer Mrs. O resigned from her lucrative judging stint on “America’s Got Talent” after NBC allegedly nixed a previously planned reality show deal with her son, Jack, who had just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“I just can’t be fake,” she said. “It’s discrimination, and it was badly handled…They can’t make me do something I don’t want to do. All they can do is stop me from being a judge on another network for five years.”

Jada Pinkett Smith

Last year “Matrix Revolutions” Jada Pinkett Smith came to her tween daughter Willow’s defense after the “Whip My Hair” singer had no hair left to whip. When Willow got a buzz cut and bright neon dye job — and was subsequently slammed by critics– her mom went on the defense, taking to Facebook to post: “The question why I would let Willow cut her hair. First the ‘let’ must be challenged … I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are her domain. Willow cut her hair because her beauty, her value, her worth is not measured by the length of her hair. It’s also a statement that claims that even little girls have the right to own themselves and should not be a slave to even their mother’s deepest insecurities, hopes and desires.”

Cher

In 2011, mama bear Cher came to the defense of her transgender son, Chaz, when he appeared on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” amid outcry from some fans of the show. The music legend famously tweeted support of her son, writing: “This is Still America right? It took guts 2 do it … Mothers don’t stop Getting angry with stupid bigots who (mess) with their children!” Chaz thanked his mom for the support, vowing that the haters “are just motivating me to work harder.”

Teri Shields

The mother of teen model and actress Brooke Shields, Teri Shields had her share of critics when she allowed her daughter to star in sexy Calvin Klein ads as a teen. But the original “momager” masterminded her daughter’s career (including a controversial role as a child prostitute in the movie “Pretty Baby”) and was a notorious, protective on-set presence, assuring that no one messed with her kid. In 1978, Teri Shields told People, “The press has referred to me as a stage mother… They can say what they want about me. But Brooke can’t fight back. That’s why I’m here. I’m not a stage mother. I’m Brooke’s mother.”

As for Sharon Osbourne, she’s invited Gaga to continue debating with her. “I’m an open playing field for you my darling,” she wrote.

Bring it.
