Sick of your part-time job? Have you chosen to move on to greener pastures? After you’ve made this decision, it is time to write a resignation letter. A letter of resignation is one of the last impressions you leave with your employer. It will usually be included in your personnel file. Below are some sample resignation letters that might help you.

Obviously, do not copy these letters. These samples are meant to help you form your own personal letter. Your resignation letter should be typed, and in business letter format. If you’ve forgotten, please read, “How to Write a Business Letter.”

Sample Resignation Letter for a Part-Time Retail Job

Dear Mrs. Smith,

I have truly enjoyed the past two years that I have spent working at Debbie’s Dress Shop. However, because of family reasons, my husband and I feel it is best that I resign from my job. Please consider this letter as one month notice of my resignation. My last day of employment will be Friday, February 10th.

Please let me know if I can help in any way with this transition. I am more than happy to help train my replacement.

Thank-you for the opportunity to work here. I have learned so much and gained valuable experience and skills. It has been a tremendous blessing to me.

Dear Mr. McManager,

This letter is to inform you that I have chosen to resign from my job at Whataburger. My last day of employment will be August 21st, three weeks from today.

It has been a pleasure to work with you and my fellow team members at Whataburger. I am leaving this job because I will be moving to Arizona. I know that my experience at Whataburger will help me as a pursue a business degree.

Sample Resignation Letter for a Part-Time Nanny Job

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie,

After prayerfully considering this decision, I have accepted a full time nanny position. Please consider this letter as a month’s notice for my resignation. My last available day to work will be December 19th.

I have truly enjoyed being a part of your family for the past three years. Canyon and Jenily are wonderful children, and I am very blessed to have been part of their lives. I have learned so much from this nanny job. I know this experience will help me in my new position, and when I become a mother someday.

These letters can help you write your own personal letter. If possible, try to provide a month’s notice. However, a two week notice is usually sufficient for a part-time job. Good luck with your future endeavors!
