Romantic, Feminine Home Decorating Ideas

Home Decorating Ideas

For single women living alone there are few better ways to express your personality and femininity than by decorating your home in true romantic fashion. From rich, dreamy colors to kitschy photo frame and wall decor, there are a wide variety of ways you can add a touch of elegance and romanticism to your home. Here are some ideas to help you get started in your decorating.

Three-Toned Color Schemes

Having a set color scheme for your decorating will add a classic, uniform look to your home that is distinctly feminine. Choose two rich, complementary colors and one soft, neutral color for the most romantic look possible. French blue, gold and white is one idea to consider, as is pale yellow, sage green and ivory. These two color combinations will evoke thoughts of country cottages and the baroque period, both of which are highly feminine without being overly so. I personally do not recommend using pink in your decorating, as this color is almost too feminine and you are likely to tire of it very quickly.

Shabby Chic Furniture

The shabby chic look is becoming an increasingly popular trend, as it adds a vintage touch to modern homes. Stores like Target carry entire collections of pre-distressed furniture, or you can easily do the distressing yourself using paint and old furniture you already own. Distressed chairs, armoires, benches and tables will add a classic, retro look to your feminine home and will bring a little bit of the past into your living space.

Ornamental Mirrors

Ornamental mirrors are usually available inexpensively at antique and second-hand stores, and are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to add a touch of feminine glamour to your walls. Purchase mirrors with intricate detailing on the frame and simply paint them to match the color scheme of your home. I love to paint my mirrors gold to act as an accent color on my gray-blue walls.

Picture Frames

When it comes to infusing your personality into your home, picture frames are by far the easiest way to do so. These frames can be used to display and show off some of your favorites memories and the most important people in your life. Instead of hanging boring, plain wooden frames, choose ornamental or colored frames that match your color scheme.

Vases

Flowers are traditionally seen as being extremely feminine, so vases filled with fragrant, fresh blossoms will make your home feel elegant and romantic. Mix and match different shaped and patterned vases to brighten up your kitchen and living room. The vases will serve as a piece of home decor, while the flowers will make your home smell great and feel more welcoming.

Seashells and Pearls

Add a unique touch to your bathroom counter by filling a glass bowl with seashells and a some artificial pearls. This idea has been featured on the popular blog “Romantic Home,” and is an idea I have used in my own apartment. If you do not have any seashells you have collected on your own, dollar and craft stores often sell them very inexpensively.
