RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is Too Harsh for Sensitive Skin

Eye Allergies, Night Cream, Retinol

I’ve always been intrigued by the French skincare line RoC, and I’ve heard really positive things about the company. As far as retinol creams go, RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is quite affordable (under $20) and has been touted by beauty experts as an outstanding retinol product. So I picked up a tube at my local CVS pharmacy recently and thought I’d test the product overnight on my very sensitive skin.

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream Fails the Test

According to ads I’ve seen, RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream claims to be the only moisturizer on the market that can make you look ten years younger. Roc claims that in clinical testing, deep wrinkles were greatly diminished after 12 weeks of using RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream.

I was interested in RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream as a preventive measure against fine lines and wrinkles. I’m on the computer a lot and I sometimes wear glasses, so I was looking for a moisturizer that would prevent fine lines from forming on my forehead (as I seem to squint a lot!) RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is intended to be applied in the evening and worn overnight, but I hesitated to do this, as I am very sensitive and prone to eye allergies.

So, I just used the product during the day for a while, but didn’t see any noticeable results. What I did notice was a strong fragrance or odor that I could smell when I applied RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream to my forehead. I was careful to avoid the eye area, but my eyes sometimes felt like they could tear up at any moment, and I experienced some itching and burning.

This was nothing compared to the agony I experienced when I did eventually use RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream overnight. One evening I applied RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream to my forehead and went off to bed. In the middle of the night, I woke up in distress with stinging, burning eye pain. My eyes were bright red and tearing, and I felt a searing pain in both eyes. I was surprised by the allergic reaction; I had only applied a small amount of RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream and felt it had thoroughly absorbed into my skin before bed.

I went for a cold wet washcloth and endured the rest of the night in severe pain. I had tried to use RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream for a few weeks to see if it indeed lived up to the claims made by RoC and other beauty experts. But that night was it for me–I’ll never use RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream again.

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream: From Bad to Worse

To make matters worse, RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream was slowly changing the texture of the skin on my forehead. I thought that the skin on my forehead was starting to look rough and pebbly and the pores seemed a bit enlarged since using RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, but wasn’t sure if I was imagining it?

I was talking with a relative about testing this night cream, and she happened to mention that my forehead did look different, it was a bit rougher and drier in texture than my usual soft, smooth skin. I’m glad I had just stopped using RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream when I noticed this roughness to my skin, and I was able to reverse this effect.

I used a soothing moisturizer and some Dove soap for a while, to bring my skin back to normal, and now my skin looks fine. I’m grateful that RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream didn’t permanently change the texture of my skin. I feel that this product was far too harsh for my delicate sensitive skin, and it did result in severe eye allergies for me.

Where to Buy

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is available nationwide in grocery stores and drugstores. I purchased RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream at my local CVS Pharmacy in upstate New York for under $20. The product is also sold at drugstore.com where a 1 fl. oz. tube was selling at a sale price of $18.39 (the item is regularly $22.99.)

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream claims to visibly diminish the appearance of lines and deep wrinkles; however, I found the fragrance overwhelming and the product very irritating to my skin. I can’t recommend this product for those with eye allergies or sensitive skin; in my opinion, skincare lines like Natural Advantage by Jane Seymour and Garnier Nutritioniste are just as effective, but gentler options.
