Rid Lice Killing Shampoo Vs Equate Lice Killing Shampoo

Lice

Last month I had the chance to try out two different brands of Lice Killing Shampoo. It seemed to be that time of year at school again and I was off to Wal-mart to buy the shampoo to treat the problem. I picked up a box of Rid Lice Killing Shampoo that contained one 2 oz bottle. I did not have enough to money at the time to buy enough Rid to treat everyone in my household. To be able to have enough product I picked up a box of Equate Lice Killing Shampoo that contained one 6 oz bottle. I purchased the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo for around $13 and the Equate Lice Killing Shampoo for around $7.

Once I got home I read the instructions and both brands said to leave the shampoo on for 10 minutes, then lather and rinse. Both brands contained a nit comb that I was to use after rinsing the product out. So I place what I had of the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo on my two oldest school aged children and the Equate on my two youngest children and myself.

After ten minutes I washed the shampoo out and proceeded to look through my children’s hair. I could not believe that none of the lice was dead. All four of the children still had live lice in their hair. It did not look like either brand of lice killing shampoo worked. I decided to call their pediatrician to see if they needed a stronger prescription strength to treat this problem.

When I call the pediatrician I was informed that the time frame on the instructions was wrong. I needed to leave the shampoo on for a minimum of 30 minutes and no more that 40 minutes. I was informed to wait until the next morning and then treat for the full time frame.

The next morning I used what I had that was suppose to be for the second treatment in 7 days. After the time was up I rinsed the product out and went through the kids hair again. That is when the difference between the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo and the Equate Lice Killing Shampoo was noticeable.

After leaving the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo on for 30 minutes the two kids with it on had some live lice left. That though was not my major problem. My major problem was that they now had chemical burns on their scalp from over exposure to the chemicals.

I figured that maybe the pediatrician was wrong. That turned out to not be the case when I checked the two younger children who had used the Equate Lice Killing Shampoo. Not only was there no live lice left in their hair but there was also no chemical burns.

For the two oldest boys I waited a couple of days before retreating their hair and that time around I used the Equate Lice Killing Shampoo instead of the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo. After leaving the product on for 30 minutes, I rinsed and went about checking their hair. This time I found no chemical burns and all of the lice that was in their hair was dead.

When it comes to treating the house I went out and bought the Equate Bedding Spray over any of the name brand Rid Bedding Spray. I had figured that if the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo had worked so badly I was not chancing another infestation by using the Rid Bedding Spray.

I would recommend the Equate product line for killing any lice problems anyone has. The product works very well and does not cause the harmful side effect that I seen when using the Rid Lice Killing Shampoo. The other added benefit aside from how well the product worked was the cost effective pricing of the Equate Lice Killing Shampoo.
