Review: Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades

Onyx, Protect Hair, Red Heads

I recently dyed my hair from blond to almost pitch black. I loved the results, but sadly as time began to tick away, so did my once luscious raven black locks. Slowly I watched my hair fade from black, to a dull black with brown lights.

I knew that sun played a roll in the transformation, and no matter how hard I looked, I found that there weren’t any hair care products designed with us black rooted beauties in mind. I wanted something that would protect my hair color from fading any more than it already had.

My search for such products was disappointing, and I only came out with a small handful of products designed for those with dark hair like mine. Sadly most of these products were only glossing creams and balms that didn’t do squat.

Shelves are lined up with brunettes and blonds in mind, and I never realized how much more was available for those with this colored hair. I also never realized how little there is for red heads and those with black hair; till now.

Last week I came across something new on the shelves in the hair care section at Walmart though. The color of the bottle is what caught my eye right away. The bottle was a dark black with golden labeling, and the name of the product was Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades.

I grabbed it as if it were the last bottle. I love Pantene, and I knew I would love this new conditioner. Not to mention the fact that they designed it with black locks in mind.

The Promise:

Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades promised to give radiance to dull color, it promised to fight dry hair by adding moisture, and it is designed to protect hair from the elements while leaving behind a rich glossy black shine.

Made for those with natural or dyed black hair. Gentle enough for those with perms as well.

My Use:

I didn’t even give it a sniff test in the store. I sort of already knew it would have that signature musky Pantene scent that most of their products do.

After shampooing, I squeezed out a half handful of Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner. I was shocked by the color. I was expecting white conditioner…and I got a deep stormy purple color instead. I now knew how this conditioner would enhance my color. It was going to dye my hair right?

Nah! It rinsed right out. I was glad to see that the purple colored conditioner did not stain the ring in the bathtub, like I thought it would.

After rinsing in the shower, my hair was left feeling silky, manageable, and moisturized.

Once my hair was dry it was in fact left glossier and shiny, not to mention extremely moisturized and manageable. Sadly though frizz was still very present, as well as frizzes sister puff.

Overall:

The results were great. I loved how Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades left my hair really shiny and manageable…however it also left my hair frizzy and puffy.

For me Midnight Expressions is an okay conditioner. It’s not the best conditioner in the world, nor is it the worst. I would consider buying it again, because I liked the high shine it left behind. If it managed to tackle the puff and frizz then I would easily call it a 5 star conditioner.

Recommendation:

Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades is an awesome product for those with dark shades of hair. It would most likely work best on those who do not have thick unruly hair that is prone to frizzing and puffing up.

In my opinion, it is worth a try, and for it’s price it’s worth at least that. My 13.5 ounce bottle came to $5.99.

You can most likely find Pantene Pro-V Midnight Expressions Conditioner, Daily Color Enhancing Espresso to Onyx for Black Shades, at any local drug store or super store.
