Review: O’Neil Theatres in Lisbon, Connecticut

Lisbon, Spiderman 3, Stadium Seating

With home entertainment on the rise and the release of Blu-ray and HD-DVDs, many people are getting the theatre experience at home instead of going to their local cinemas. No one can replace the comfort of their own home, but they cannot replace the movie experience either, especially with O’Neil Theatres located in Lisbon, Connecticut.

Opened in 2005, the O’Neil Theatres helped expand the already large Lisbon Landing, adding onto Wal-Mart, Kohl’s, and other stores located there. The theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art projection and sound systems in each of its twelve theatres. Theatres one, ten, and twelve feature the largest screens there, hosting huge titles like Star Wars, Spiderman, Transformers, and Pirate of the Caribbean. They offer a spectacular view of the screen and superior sound.

Like many newer theatres, O’Neil Theatres is equipped with stadium seating, so sitting behind a large head or annoying hat is no longer a problem. Stadium seating allows the whole screen to be viewed without any problems or items blocking the view. People walking to seats in rows in front of you are no longer a hassle either.

Sometimes a wait for a movie to begin can be long and that is why O’Neil Theatres offers a small arcade area. There are mostly racing games like the Fast and the Furious, but a couple of shooters and puppet machines are tossed in there as well.

Concessions and food are no different than any other theatre, offering overpriced popcorn, soda, and candy. They also offer pizza, nachos, and cappuccino too, for a different kind of movie snack.

O’Neil Theatres is host to many special events held by themselves and various radio stations. Local stations like 106.5 WBMW, Jammin’ 107.7, and Q105.5 hold midnight movie premieres for showings like Saw IV, Batman Begins, Spiderman 3, and others. These are fun events that usually have give-aways like posters, CDs, tickets, and other things.

Ticket prices gradually go up at the theatre and usually around nine dollars for a night showing. The more affordable matinee is only around six to seven dollars. The earliest show time is usually a little bit before noon and if there is no special event than the last showing is around ten o’clock.

There is also a birthday room available for group outings to the movies, and theatres can even be rented out for special events like office meetings or group gatherings. O’Neil theatres is clean, impressive, and a great atmosphere for movies. It is really worth getting off the couch and seeing a movie in these theatres.
