We actually had a Saturday when we didn’t have to do anything special so my wife decided to make breakfast for everyone. As she was cooking, she realized we didn’t have breakfast sausage so I ran up the street to Walgreen’s to pick up a pack of it.
As I was walking up to the checkout counter, I passed a display with Cheddar Cheese Popcorn from Walgreen’s Nice brand. It was about $2 and I wasn’t really interested in purchasing it at first. However, we had planned on watching a movie with our oldest daughter later (while her sister was napping) and I figured the popcorn would make a decent movie snack. So, I ultimately purchased it. But, when we had a chance to try it later on, my opinion of it was somewhat mixed.
When it came to taste, I thought this product was pretty decent. There was a decent amount of cheddar cheese powder on the popcorn (something that isn’t the case with some other brands). It also had a decent flavor to it. It wasn’t overly sharp but, unlike many other brands we’ve tried, there was still some taste to it.
However, while I enjoyed the flavor, I was somewhat disappointed by the overall quality. I’ve had other products from this brand in the past and thought they were as good as some of the more expensive brands. But, when it came to the cheddar cheese popcorn, I feel the brand took a step backwards.
The main reason for this is the popcorn was very hard. There were times when I thought I would break my teeth on them and I did have second thoughts about letting my daughter eat the popcorn as a result of that. So, while I did like the flavor, I found I didn’t enjoy this brand as much as others.
In fact, even at the reduced price, I’m not sure this product was worth my money when I can buy other brands of already-made cheese-flavored popcorn for not much more. As a result of that, I do not recommend this particular product.
