Review of Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce: I Thought that it was Nice and Thick but a Tad on the Sweet Side

Muir Glen, Pizza Sauce

For some time now I have been using Hunt’s Chunky Vegetable Tomato Sauce for my pasta and pizza dishes and frankly it is not the best choice. The whole reason that I have been using this particular item is because it is cheap but I really don’t like its watery consistency for pizzas and so I decided to try out an actual pizza sauce hoping that it would be thicker. The particular pizza sauce that I found was Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce.

I had tried other Muir Glen products in the past, such as their Organic Tomato Paste and their Organic Tomato Sauce, so I was familiar with the company. Although I didn’t think that their products were bad, I was not completely sold on them. I found that the paste was sweet, which is common with tomato pastes, and that the tomato sauce was not overly flavorful, something that is common with tomato sauces, especially ones that do not have any added salt. I didn’t that these would be the best products to represent the company. The Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce was certainly sweeter than I thought it would be but it was much more thick than any tomato or spaghetti sauce that I had seen which was likely do to added tomato paste which of course would turn its taste sweeter. It did spread wonderfully on the pizza dough though, not running over the side like spaghetti sauce normally does.

The fifteen ounce jar was the perfect size for one pizza with a good amount of sauce on it, or two pizzas that had a thin layer of sauce. This certainly was a nice change, as I normally open a can of spaghetti sauce and having to save what I don’t use and make sure that I use it up in a timely manner. All in all the taste was good, but it was not my favorite taste or anything. I don’t plan on getting Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce again, not because I didn’t like it enough but just because I think to save money I’ll skip it. I have decided to branch out and try out different and organic spaghetti sauce so hopefully I will be able to find something that is much better than what I have been using, on a good note though I am sure that being organic this is much healthier.

I was wondering just how healthy this pizza sauce would be. In one fourth cup of Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce there is forty calories with ten calories from fat. There is two hundred and thirty milligrams of what you need of sodium and only six grams of carbohydrates. In addition there is also three grams of sugars, two grams of fiber and one gram of protein as well as two percent of your daily need of vitamin A, vitamin C and iron. Organic tomato puree, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic dried onion, sea salt, organic onion powder, organic oregano, organic sweet basil, organic black pepper, organic garlic powder and naturally derived citric acid make up the ingredients in this pizza sauce. Tomato puree listed first clarifies why the pizza sauce is as sweet as it is but I was pleased to see such healthy ingredients and the selection of wonderful spices used.

Although I said I would not be getting Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce again I would recommend it to anyone that needed thick sauce for when they make pizza and didn’t mind a sweet tomato taste in it. Even though it wasn’t quite what I was looking for I was glad that I tried it. At only two dollars and twenty nine cents for the fifteen ounce it was not at all a waste of money.
