Review of Carowinds: Amusement and Water Park

Paramount Carowinds a park that is located on the border of North and South Carolina, just south of Charlotte North Carolina off of Interstate 77. It is 108 acres of fun and entertainment.

Prices:

Single day tickets are less than $35.00 for Adults, while kids and seniors is about $20.00 Season passes are available for the cost of about 2 visits to the park. There is a $10.00 per day cost for parking.

The Park Admission cost covers entrance into Boomerang Bay Water Park, most the rides in the park, (Some rides such as SkyFlyer is a pay per ride event). Most concerts are included in park admission price. Concerts are held throughout the season. Most of the shows are free. Live Shows are included in price. There is Carowinds Summer on Ice which is an Ice show that is daily except on Wednesdays. The Nickelodeon Parade has more than Nickelodeon Characters that is nightly at 7pm except Tuesdays. For the kids there is Dora the explorer, which has a sing along show for the kids.

Other Park Information:

You can bring your Dog and have them boarded while you spend the day at Carowinds. It costs $10.00 a day, you have to bring your own dog food, and water is provided. This is first come first serve location.

Carowinds has ATM Machines, Locker Rentals; First Aid Stations with EMT’s on Duty, Wheel Chairs, and several places that you can change diapers for your baby, there is a Baby care Center located in Nickelodeon Central.

Food:

There are many restaurants such as Carolina Fries, Happy Days Diner which has burgers and fries ready for you. Panda Express will be serving up Chinese. Chick-Fil-A will have your chicken waiting. Outer Hanks will have a cold beer or frozen margaritas ready to go with the shrimp. There are other restaurants that offer wings, and kid’s menus. There is something for everyone.

Rides:

The Roller Coasters: If you like big, scary fast, heart stopping coasters, Carowinds is the place to be. Start out with the tallest roller coaster in the park, The Borg. Go to Carolina Cyclone that will loop you around over 4 loops. The Drop Zone will take you up 160 feet then drop at 56 mile per hour free fall for 100 feet, the quickly stopping leaving only 60 feet between you and the ground. Thunder road will take you on a fast ride through the North and South Carolina while you are racing the other car. Top Gun and the Vortex are two of the coasters that are known for their fast speeds. The Southern Star is back in 2007 this Viking ship looking ride will scare the heck out of you.

For the ultimate free falling experience do try the SkyFlyer. This one costs in addition to your park entrance fee, It looks like a lot of fun to be swinging through the air only attached with a cord.

There are a number of family rides that the whole family can enjoy; the Carolina GoldRusher is a wooden roller coaster that isn’t as fast other coasters in the park. There is a Scooby Doo Haunted mansion that you can ride through with your kids. SpongeBob SquarePants 3D is an attraction that makes you feel like your experiencing actions while the movie as it’s played on a screen. Carolina Skytower is a space needle that you can ride up and get a view of the park and surrounding area.

There are some water rides that will get you wet. The White Water Falls will take you over a 45 foot water fall, ending up in a wave of water splashed all over you. Nickelodeon Flying Super Saturator is another water ride. You will be sprayed with water on this ride, which is more like a roller coaster. Rip Roaring Rapids is a blast; it is a white water rafting experience. You will be getting wet on this ride.

Nickelodeon area is for the smaller kids, they offer quite a few rides that will keep the children entertained for hours. Backyardigans is a ride that looks like swings that will fly through the air. Boots Balloon ride is balloons that kids can ride in. Dora the Explorer is a train ride with the travels of Dora played on the train ride. TV Road Trip is cars that resemble Cadillac and Corvettes and travel along a track course. Wild Thornberry’s is a water ride that ends with you riding down over the waterfall. Rugrats is the kid’s roller coaster that takes you through great big green dinosaurs over the place.

The Water Park

The Water Park, Boomerang Bay which is located inside Carowinds, is opened daily from 11am-7pm they do have a place that you can change, with lockers and restrooms available. This is included in the price of admission for Carowinds. They have several fun water events here; Crocodile Run is about 1000 foot long river that you float down on huge inner tubes. You can float across the state line from North Carolina to South Carolina. There are several Slides available. One is Aussie Twister that takes you into total darkness while you are sliding down to the pool. Pipeline Peak is another slide. Great Barrier Reef is the wave pool, which makes you feel like you are in the surf with waves coming in.

There are two pool sections for the children. Jackaroo Landing which is a three story jungle gym. Every few minutes water buckets will dump water on the kids getting them all wet. Kangaroo Lagoo and Wallaby Wharf are the pools for infants and toddlers.

During Halloween season Carowinds becomes Scarowinds after dark. This starts mid September and runs through the end of October.
