Review: Bare Minerals Makeup

Bare Minerals, Bareminerals, Minerals

If you have ever stayed up late or woken up very early you have probably seen the Bare Minerals infomercial. I have seen it over and over and always wanted to try it, but it is so expensive I seemed to never have the money to order. Well, for my birthday in June I did splurge and order the starter kit which was with tax over $60.

I placed my order and in about 3 weeks I got my package. I couldn’t wait to try it out. I am not one to wear a lot of makeup because in warm weather I will sweat it off. I do wear a little in the winter months when I want to wow people. So I got my package and opened it and I was amazed at how small the jars were. I thought to myself I payed $60 for this? Bare Minerals comes with an instructional video and instruction pamphlet. I popped the DVD into my computer and began to watch. It showed just like on TV how the women put on the makeup. There was one annoying thing about the video though; they want you to buy more of their products, so the whole DVD is an infomercial for their other products. Still, I got the idea how to put on the make up, and I just sat on my bed and opened my jars of multi-tasking eye color, face color, tan color and mineral veil. Bare minerals has makeup for every skin tone.

Bare Minerals is a product of Bare Escentuals. The product comes in tiny jars with just 0.02 ounces in each jar. The Bare Minerals products lasts a long time, well all but the mineral veil. You have to use more of it to finish off your face to make it look flawless, so you will run out of it in just a couple of months of use, but the rest does last much longer. The starter kit comes with three brushes, one for light strokes, one for minimizing imperfections, and one for over all facial application.

I sat there on my bed and applied the Bare Minerals products on my face as I saw it done on the DVD. I just had a little hand held mirror to work with, but I applied it very well I thought. Then I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror there and I was amazed at how much younger I looked. I am 58 years old, and I do look fairly young for my age anyway, so people tell me anyway. However, I thought I looked even younger, or maybe it was that I looked rejuvenated.

The Down Side of Bare Minerals Makeup

There is a down side to Bare Minerals. Like I said in the beginning I am prone to sweat a little, or should I say glisten. If you have any moisture on your face, such as with perspiration, you have a mess on your face, because it streaks. Bare Minerals is not waterproof, so therefore if you go out in the rain expect that you will need to wash your face and start over.

Another thing about Bare Minerals that might be on the down side is that it rubs off your face. If you were to get up close and personal with another person, that person will be wearing some of your makeup.

When applying the Bare Minerals mineral veil, you might better wear a covering over your clothes or just not dress when you put your makeup on. It falls like dust from the brush as you are applying it on your face. This is why you want to tap it to get as much off the brush as you can. A little goes a long way. No matter how careful you are you will have a powdery layer on your clothes, or at least I did.

Another down side of Bare Minerals is that the brushes don’t really hold up well. They lose their bristles fairly easily. This is no real problem though, because you can go to a makeup center in your favorite drug store or mall and purchase good brushes that will work fine with this product.

The Good Things about Bare Minerals Makeup

What I liked about Bare Minerals is that it is lightweight. It feels like you have nothing on your face. Except for the mineral veil, it lasts for a really long time. The product seems to improve the condition of the skin over time. Prior to using Bare Minerals I had tiny bumps at my hairline on my forehead. Now my skin is smooth and I don’t feel those bumps anymore. The product also protects me from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, because it has an SPF of 15. Since I have had skin cancer on my face a couple of times, I feel it is always necessary to wear some kind of sun protection.

I also like that it isn’t just me that notices that I look younger. When I go to church, many of the ladies and even a few of the men come up to me and say I look like I have had something done, or that I look younger. Some have asked me if I did something to my hair. None of them ask if I have a new makeup on, because I don’t look like I am wearing makeup; I just look like I have perfect skin tones.

The Price

Bare Minerals is a bit pricey. I do feel the product is worth the price though, because it does last a long time. I have plenty of product almost 3 months after purchasing it, with the exception of the mineral veil. I did find though that I can get the product cheaper online than I can by ordering from the infomercial on TV by phone. You can go to the Bare Minerals website an order. This is the web address: http://www.bareminerals.com/. I have noticed you can get the product on eBay for $21 plus shipping. I may try that next time.

My Recommendation

Despite the drawbacks to Bare Minerals makeup, I would recommend it, but I wouldn’t wear it on hot days if your face is prone to glisten in the heat. I would rate this product with 8 stars.. if 10 stars is considered perfect.
