Renaissance Festivals in Florida

Chocolate Festival, Longbow, Renaissance Festivals, St. Pete Beach

Renaissance Fairs in Florida roll back the years to the middle ages. The pageantry of the era of kings and queens is once again alive, as costumed characters roam the streets to recreate a unique experience. Visitors often join in the fun, wearing costumes of their own as characters weave tales of old.

Three upcoming renaissance fairs in Florida include: Bay Area Renaissance Festival in Tampa, Florida Renaissance Festival in Deerfield Beach and Hoggetowne Medieval Faire in Gainesville. Following is a brief description of each of these festivals.

Bay Area Renaissance Festival at MOSI
February 23 – April 6, 2008. Weekends
Tampa, Florida
His Royal Majesty, King Henry VIII and Her Royal Highness, Queen Catherine Parr, extend an invitation to all to celebrate in the magic and adventure of the Tudor Dynasty. Stroll through the lanes, discover unique hand crafted wares and tempt your taste buds with food fit for a King or Queen. Vendors will display and sell their wares, with goods including apparel, fiber art, fine art, photography, glass, heraldry, jewelry, leather, metal, musical instruments, ornamental items, potters, readers, specialty foods and wooden crafts. Weekends 10 am to 6 pm. Tickets: Adult $16.95, Child $8.95, Senior $12.95.

In addition to the medieval fun, the Bay Area Renaissance Festival will feature special events, including:

Florida State Highland Heavy Games Championships,
Belly Dance Competition. Compete to win the Florida State Title in Middle Eastern Belly Dancing. March 1-2.
Florida State Longbow Competition. March 1-2.

Wine and Beer Tastings
Pet Fest Weekend celebrates pets. March 22-23. Sponsored by PetCo.

Florida Renaissance Festival
February 9 – March 9, 2008 Weekends
Deerfield Beach, Florida
This is the 16th anniversary of the Renaissance Festival. Medieval characters take you back to a era of knights, jousting, sword fighting, tournaments games and feasts fit for a king. Hundreds of authentically costumed performers get into character to promote a fun filled event. Twelve stages provide continuous entertainment from the middle ages. Over 100 artisans demonstrate their arts and crafts and sell their unique wares. The Master Falconer will have th Birds of Prey in full flight. The Royal Feast is held once a day. The five course gourmet meal includes the meal, unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks. Diners will enjoy exclusive entertainment ant preferred seating at the final joust. Tickets: Adults $20, Children (6-12) $7 and children under six free. Tickets to the Royal Feats are $63 (includes festival admission).

Hoggetowne Medieval Faire
January 26 – February 3, 2008 Weekends
Gainesville, Florida
The Squire of Hoggetowne recreates the days of King Arthur for two weekends each year. The kingdom opens its gates to reveal the pageantry of another era. Dancers, singers, blacksmiths, magicians and knights dressed in period garb welcome visitors into a past time. Tickets: Adults $12 .00, Youth $6, Kids (0-4) free.
