Product Review: Swiffer WetJet

Marble Floors, Swiffer

The Swiffer WetJet is every busy person’s dream come true. There will be no more wringing out dirty mops, carrying buckets of water, or dragging your mop from the living room to the kitchen sink for a rinse. With the Swiffer WetJet you have floor cleaner, scrubbing power and disposable cleaning cloths at your fingertips. With the lightweight design of the Swiffer WetJet, mopping the floors is no longer backbreaking work. Moreover, for fewer than 20.00, the Swiffer WetJet is a great value.

I purchased my first Swiffer WetJet after I got a puppy and was tired of the hassle a mop and bucket caused when I was trying to do a quick clean up. Though I purchased it as a quick clean up mop, it quickly became my preferred method when mopping the floors. Two great things about the Swiffer WetJet are that it’s lightweight and easy to use. The handle has a squirt button to distribute the cleaning solution in about a six-inch area. Then you just use the multi-layered cleaning pad to mop the floors. No more wringing out mops or dealing with dirty water. There is also a scrubbing strip on the left side of the Swiffer WetJet for hard to clean spots. The scrubbing strip works great for dried up food or hard, sticky messes on the floor. However, the textured cleaning cloth does a great job of picking up dirt and grime off the floor. If you need to throw away your scrubbing strip and do not have a replacement, you can rest assured that your floor will still get a great clean with the cleaning cloth. The swivel head on the WetJet makes is a great mop to get in spaces under cabinets, dishwashers, and ovens. No regular mop can do that with their bulky sponges or dirty strings. When your Swiffer WetJet cleaning cloth gets extra dirty, you just toss it and slap on another one. Depending on how long it’s been since your last mopping job, the cleaning cloths should do two large rooms before needing to be changed.

The Swiffer WetJet pre-mixed cleaning solutions are great for getting a nice sheen and great clean to your floors. Swiffer offers a variety of cleaning solution choices. They have their all-purpose cleaner that cleans tile, linoleum, and marble floors. They also sell a special wood floor cleaner for those who need a special blend for their wood floors. If you like anti-bacterial formulas, Swiffer also has one of those available for their WetJets. The bottle of cleaning solution says it will clean eight rooms. Mopping once a week, a bottle usually lasts me two months.

Although I’m grateful for the Swiffer WetJet, I do not like two things. The first is that because it is so lightweight the handle bends easily. I have owned two Swiffer WetJets and both of them had bent handles by the third or fourth time I used them. I don’t know if this is common, or if I’m just an aggressive mopper, but my last Swiffer WetJet’s handle actually broke off. I tried to fix it, but it never worked right after that. I also wish it had some sort of sensor to let you know when your batteries were running low. I have been in the middle of mopping, when all of a sudden, the spray just starts dribbling out because the batteries are dead. Then I end up with a half-mopped room if I don’t have four AA batteries. Overall, the Swiffer WetJet is the perfect mop for a busy person, or a lazy person like me who doesn’t want to mess with water and rinsing and ringing out stinky mops. Thanks to the Swiffer WetJet, mop and toss is my philosophy.
