Product Review: One a Day Women’s Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement

Brittle Bone Disease, Centrum, Healthy Bones, Sma

Are you looking for a new multivitamin/multimineral supplement to take each day as part of a healthy new lifestyle? Before taking a new vitamin supplement, it is best to consult your doctor first and see if it will be right for you and your specific health needs.

One a Day® women’s multivitamin/multimineral supplement could be just what you are looking for. It contains an improved formula that has more calcium. The supplement comes in a bottle containing 100 tablets, which will last you for over three months. This supplement is intended for women only. Do not give this supplement to young children. The cap is child-proof, which is a help for women who are afraid of their children opening the bottle and accidentally ingesting the tablets. The price varies a great deal depending on where you buy the product. Walgreen’s sells this product for $9.49.

The packaging states that One a Day® women’s multivitamin/multimineral supplement has “More than 2 times the amount of Calcium in Centrum® or Centrum® Silver®. I decided to check out this claim for myself. I found out that Centrum® contains 200mg of calcium, which forms 20% of a woman’s daily intake. Centrum® Silver® contains slightly more calcium, 220mg, or 22% of a woman’s daily intake. The claims were correct, as One a Day® women’s multivitamin/multi mineral supplement contains 450mg or 50% of a woman’s daily calcium requirement. However, if you choose to take this supplement, you will still need to find other sources of calcium within your diet to boost it to 100%.

Women who are taking the Depo Provera contraceptive injection will need to increase their calcium intake to avoid bone density loss. Calcium is an essential mineral required for healthy, bones, teeth, muscles and nerve health. A lack of adequate calcium in the diet can result in brittle bone disease (osteoporosis) that can then lead to breaks and fractures. The best way to protect yourself is to increase your dairy intake of milk, cheese, yogurt and so forth. Some people are lactose-intolerant and unable to eat a dairy-rich diet. As such, a supplement such as One a Day Women’s multivitamin/ multimineral can help you.

One a Day® Women’s Multivitamin/multi mineral also contains 50% of a woman’s daily requirement of Vitamin A (20% as beta carotene) intake. To make up for the rest of the daily amount, women can obtain Vitamin A from foods such as spinach, peas, carrots, oatmeal, milk and cheese. It also contains 100% each of Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Iron, Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Chromium.

I would recommend this product to women who would like to try a new supplement. It contains a lot of essential vitamins and minerals required for good health. But it is not a substitute for following a healthy eating plan. It simply provides a boost.
