Product Review of the Emjoi Epilator

Epilator, Smooth Legs

The process of hair removal is one of exasperation and frustration by many women. To remove our body hair, women resort to spreading hot wax on our bodies and ripping off the hair, shaving the hair off or using messy, sticky depilatory creams. Each method has its own benefits and drawbacks. I’ve tried these methods and while they worked okay, I didn’t love any of them.

However, there is another method of hair removal in the form of epilators. Now, while your mind may be conjuring up images of those horrible epilady’s that were popular about twenty years ago, never fear, the newer and updated epilators are far better and easier to use. Using this device can be daunting and intimidating. The fear of pain can do that to you!

I spend some time on a website called www.makeupalley.com. This website has a lot of beauty product reviews and information. As I’m fundamentally lazy, and hate body hair, I was intrigued by having to only deal with leg hair once a week or every two weeks. Based on product reviews, I chose the Emjoi Gently Silken epilator.

Keep in mind that while I’m not a natural blonde, the majority of my leg hair is very fine and blonde. I say most because I have a few rogue, darker hairs around my ankles. If I were a very hairy individual, I may not have been as inclined to give it a try. I’m very glad that I did.

The first time that I used the Emjoi, which was approximately six years ago, I started at my ankles, near where the dark hairs are located. It hurt a bit, it wasn’t awful, but not great either. As I moved upwards on my legs, where the hair is fine and thin, it did not hurt any longer. It mostly just gave me a tingling feeling, but that’s it. The first session took about one and a half hours. The result was silky-smooth legs for approximately one to two weeks.

That particular Emjoi epilator lasted me for five years. I purchased it from www.amazon.com for about $40.00. Not bad for five years of use! Not to mention how much time I saved not having to shave my legs every day. My Emjoi epilator finally breathed its last breath last year. No problem at all. I just popped over to Sally’s Beauty Supply and bought another one for around $40.00.

At present time, I epilate my legs about every two weeks or so. I spent about an hour at a time doing so. As I’m a multitasker, I generally do it while on the computer or watching a movie. I can honestly say that since that first time, I never have pain. It never hurts, ever. The experience is uneventful at best. Afterward, I’m left with silky-smooth, shiny, hair free legs.

I personally have not ever had one ingrown hair. Not even one. However, if you are prone to ingrown hairs, you may want to take the time to exfoliate your legs both before and after you epilate. Also, as I stated, my hair is quite fine. If your leg hair is thicker and coarser, I imagine that the process will hurt you quite a bit more. Some suggestions that I’ve seen are to pop two ibuprofen and perhaps drink a glass of wine one hour before starting the process.

One tip is to apply a moisturizing lotion or body butter after you epilate each leg. Sometimes, I have a little bit of red irritation on my legs in the form of tiny bumps, but they disappear within five minutes.

I could not recommend the Emjoi epilator enough. It is by far my favorite health and beauty product ever, hands down. It has not only saved me money, but also money.
