Product Review; Mama Lucia’s Pizza

Frozen Pizza

Recently, I tried Mama’s Lucia’s Pizza. At my local grocer, I was able to get 3 for $9. That’s a pretty good deal during these economic times. The pizza is famous because it originated from what is known as “the hill” in South St. Louis, Missouri. The Hill is known for it’s famous restaurants of Italian cuisine. The company was founded in 1981. It now supplies over 300 grocers in the St. Louis area. It is the number one “off sale” frozen pizza on the local market.

Some of the important facts about the pizza are these. First, the dough is made with real butter. It is made fresh each day so that the crust will stay thing and crisp. Second is the sauce. It is an old custom recipe that is filled with herbs and spices. The sausage is am Italian type sausage that has a 80/20 ratio of lean meat to fat. It also has the herbs and spices to give it that true Italian or “the hill” flavor. The pepperoni is of the highest quality. You won’t find that layer of oil on top of it when it is baked.

There are specialty pizza’s as well. Some with bacon, mushrooms, a mixture of veggies, as well as different meats and cheeses. From time to time, they will experiment to see what the public is in demand for. Recently, they have had four different pizza’s on the market. However, their main stay has been the sausage and pepperoni pizza.

When you place the frozen pizza in the oven at 425 degrees, you place it on the center rack. It then takes 15 minutes to cook. Mama Lucia’s Pizza weighs 1 pound and 4.19 ounces. It provides four servings per pizza..
