Product Review: Kellogg’s New Eggo Syrup – Butter Pecan Flavor

Aunt Jemima, Butter Pecan, kellogg's

When I spotted that catchy bottle of syrup by trusted brand Kellogg’s Eggo, I had to get it! After all, I could just picture warm pancakes smothered in a rich buttery tasting syrup, and this one was flavored butter pecan; How could I go wrong? Not only does this syrup sound delicious, but it comes in the perfect pour waffle shaped bottle, that is sure to catch your eye! But was it any good?

Sorry for the disappointment, but I have to say that Kellogg’s made a mistake on this one. Imagine my own disappointment when I rushed home from the grocery store, just to make a batch of pancakes, and YUK! What was I eating? Butter Pecan? Sure didn’t taste like it. And on top of that, the new Kellogg’s Eggo syrup is not very thick, so it absorbs into your pancakes. The butter pecan flavor is so artificial it seems to leave a bitter taste in your mouth, but that probably should have been a given when reading the fine black letters under the large white ones. You know, the white letterers that loudly say Butter Pecan and the small black ones below that say artificially flavored. Yeah, those!

Kellogg’s typically makes some tasty foods. And the sub-name Eggo is consistent in quality breakfast foods. Leggo, my Eggo! Well, let me tell you, I would let go of this Eggo, the butter pecan syrup that is. Now I have this 23 oz. bottle of syrup just sitting, and the more I think of it, the closer it gets to the trash. I tried convincing myself that it taste good, but with no good results. I would recommend sticking to whatever brand of syrup you enjoy now, and avoid the new butter pecan flavor by Kellogg’s Eggo syrup!

The biggest disappointment was when I realized that the Kellogg’s syrup ruined my pancakes by placing a fake plastic bitter flavor over them. I would have preferred dry pancakes! The flavor is not at all equivalent to anything butter pecan. See, I was thinking of that warm butter pecan flavor you find in ice cream, and unfortunately, this was not it!

For now on, I am sticking with Aunt Jemima syrup. It hasn’t failed me yet!

So the next time you are cruising the isles at your grocery store, and spot this product, it would be my recommendation to leave it on the shelf. I have to give Kellogg’s props though; The bottle is very eye catching and really stands out among others. It just doesn’t taste like what it claims.
