Product Review: Good Mews Cat Litter

Cat Litter, Litter Boxes, Natural Cat Litter, Rabbit Food

There are over 73 million cats currently needing litter boxes changed in the United States.[1] Knowing that some cat litters can adversely effect my pets health, as well as their manufacturing and disposal can be less than “earth friendly”. I set out on the path to find an economical, safe and cost friendly cat litter than kept my house not smelling like my cats behind, and my cat’s behind healthy and happy. The cat litter at the end of my rainbow? Good Mews.

Good Mews is an entirely biodegradable litter made from 100% recycled paper making it a double whammy in the keep our earth healthy battle. On top of that it absorbs three times the amount of moisture, neutralizing ammonia, and leaving my litter box odor free, dry, and my favorite, dust free. Good Mews is made up of small pellets similar to the shape of your average rabbit food. It has no dust. The large pebbles make clean up a breeze even if you have the messiest feline in the world. It doesn’t get stuck to their paws and tracked around either. If they do kick it about for no apparent reason (You love your cat, You love your cat) it sweeps up easily, not ending up in your lungs, or on your feet either. Being pregnant this particular perk was important to me, because a parasite found in cat feces can cause an infection called toxoplasmosis which can cause miscarriage or serious birth defects. This infection also causes flu like symptoms in non-belly fruit carriers.

There’s more, Good Mews is also comes highly recommend by veterinarians as a safe choice for your cat as well. [2] Why? Because as mentioned Good Mews doesn’t stick to cats feet helping avoid injury in kittens, declawed cats and post surgery healers. It’s also safe for their consumption. I know, I’ve never seen a cat eat litter, Why would nit do that? but I’ve seen a dog do it. Granted you probably don’t want your dog eating cat litter, but if he does sneak in and get a bit Good Mews is the safest choice. Good Mews cat litter also makes wonderful bedding for rodents, rabbits and ferrets and is fragrance free.

Back to that easy clean up thing because that really is what I like best. Good Mews is safe to dump outdoors, flush (but cat urine itself can be dangerous to sea life so this isn’t recommended), incinerate, and even can be turned into compost. (compost should only be used on plants that don’t produce food) I also found I no longer have to scrape the bottom of my cat litter box, because the pellets absorb the moisture, rather than it clumping and sticking to the sides and bottom. It just pours right out.

So now I’m betting your curious what this magically wonderful Good Mews cat litter costs? That’s the thing, it’s actually cheaper than the majority of traditional types because it’s made from recycled product. You can find Good Mews at almost any pet store, or general department store, as well as on-line with an average price of about 5.99 for an 8lb bag, 12.99 for 30lbs. and 17.99 for 40lbs. That’s an average of about $2.10 a lb. Which is not to shabby when you look at the alternative.

So in summary, Good Mews cat litter is safe for the environment, your cat, and you. It’s easy to clean up, and purchase, and that purchase price is fairly low. Having used it for well over 6 months, I have found no negative aspects of the product and highly recommended it. As does the cat.
