Product Review: Gerber Fruit Puffs

Apple Cinnamon, Finger Foods, Gerber

Babies who have eaten Gerber’s Fruit Puffs recognize the tell-tale shape of Gerber’s Fruit Puffs curvy container. Before the Fruit Puffs even made it into the shopping cart, my son was reaching for them. He couldn’t even wait until we got to the register to try these new Gerber Fruit Puffs.

Gerber Fruit Puffs are a great first finger food for babies learning to self-feed. Their star-shape and small size are easy for tiny fingers to pick up, they are light and airy and actually dissolve in baby’s mouth. They are also a decent source of iron and zinc, and are low in sugar.

New Flavor of Gerber Fruit Puffs

The newest flavor of Gerber Fruit Puffs is Apple Cinnamon. This flavor must be incredibly new because even the Gerber web site did not have an image of it or a description.

With the introduction of the new Apple Cinnamon flavor Gerber has also redesigned the package.

The label on the package has changed from “Finger Foods” to “Graduates Finger Foods.” This should make a difference in their sales, as it’s more clear that these Gerber Fruit Puffs are not for infants, or for older kids.

The Gerber Fruit Puffs’ label is also much more colorful with an angled fuchsia band on the bottom of the container. The same bright pink color is in a circle shape behind the “Finger Foods.” Major text on the label has also changed from the color-alternating delicate font to a much bolder font, making the Gerber Fruit Puffs stand out on the shelf

The one true test of the Gerber Fruit Puffs, of course, is taste. From the moment you remove the signature blue cover (and the safety foil) you can smell the apple cinnamon aroma. Baby loves thse Gerber Fruit Puffs as much as the other flavors. Even his dad snuck a few into his mouth after he tasted them.

Other Gerber Fruit Puffs

There are some other Gerber Fruit Puffs flavors my son has tried and others that he hasn’t. His favorite is Banana, followed by Sweet Potato. He did not care for the Gerber Fruit Puffs Cherry flavor, perhaps because they were all stuck together and were chewier than the other flavors.

We did not try the Gerber Fruit Puffs Sweet Corn flavor, because corn is the last thing I want to give my baby.

The other Gerber Fruit Puffs flavor we stay away from is Strawberry-Apple. Since strawberry is a known allergen and food allergies run in our family, I see no reason to introduce this flavor to him yet. Actually, I am surprised the Gerber Fruit Puffs would make strawberry Gerber Fruit Puffs for babies and toddlers. Important to note for families with allergies in the family, some people are also allergic to cinnamon.

For babies who can crawl, gum food and can pick up and manipulate small pieces of food, Gerber Fruit Puffs are a great little snack.
