Product Review: Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts

Cereal Bars, Donuts

Entenmann’s has been making and delivering breads and baked goods since 1898. Today, Entenmann’s continues to offer a wide assortment of donuts, cakes, breads, cereal bars, and other baked goods. Entenmann’s Softee Donuts also come in a variety of flavors including Powdered Sugar, Cinammon, Frosted, and Plain. I purchased a box of Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts: Price

One Family Pack of Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts costs $4.29 at a suburban supermarket outside Boston. It was not a bad price, considering that each box came with twelve donuts.

Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts: Ingredients and Nutritional Information

The ingredients were not exactly healthy and wholesome, but that is to be expected from packaged donuts. Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts contain enriched wheat flour (processed flour), water, palm oil, sugar, soybean oil, nonfat milk, egg yolk powder, and a wonderful assortment of twenty letter chemicals and preservatives.

One donut contains 190 calories, 11 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbohydrates (7 grams of sugar), 4 percent of your daily required intake of vitamin A, and not much else. I suppose one donut is all right for a once in a while treat.

Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts: Quality and Taste

I was pleasantly surprised with Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts! The texture was moist, but not soggy, light but substantial, sweet, but not too sweet. Towards the center, the donut crinkled a bit, which I actually liked. It provided a contrast in texture from the rest of the donut. These donuts may look small, but they are quite substantial. One donut was quite filling, enough to keep me full of at least a few hours.

Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts: How do they compare to other products?

Dunkin Donuts are usually fresh in the morning, but tend to get dry from sitting around all day. Little Debbie’s products are not always fresh, and some of their donuts taste a little stale. I think the quality was a little higher than other products. Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts are delivered fresh daily, so at least they were never stale. Twinkies have a longer shelf life, but are even less nutritious (if such a thing is possible!)

Entenmann’s Softee Plain Donuts: Overall

I was pleased with the donuts, as they provided a decent late-afternoon snack. The price was decent, the quality was fresh, and the donuts were light but filling. I would only eat these donuts once in awhile, as they are not the most nutritious snacking option. Although I only had one donut in one sitting, my stomach already felt heavier, and I had a sugar rush, though I guess that’s to be expected from donuts.
